Hello. New guy to the forum. I've been using a 615 for years and I am thinking about upgrading to a 655 for the Gig lan. There are a lot of rev A and B available secondhand. Rev C cannot be found but I read that C is a modified B1. I am reading PROs and CONs of rev A and B and it seems like more people prefer rev A. If true, which rev A ... A1, A2, A3, A4? Thank you.

I recommend going with a Rev B or C actually. Rev As are good however are limited in some features where Rev B and C have some that Rev A doesn't. Like IPv6 is not supported on Rev A. Also some issues with newer gen cell phone WiFi maybe problematic with Rev A as WiFi on Rev A was draft N. It was finally certified on Rev B and forward. Also Rev A FW development is closed and only security issues seen will be fixed if needed. Rev B maybe coming to a close as well since Rev C has arrived.
I happened to pick up a Rev A4 at a used store. Pretty much brand new accept it needed new antennae and the power adapter which i found on ebay. Spent about $30 buck on it. Good router. Not discouraging not getting a Rev A, just pointing you to future support and configuration options.
What are your network needs? Streaming, phones, gaming? Cloud support?

Many thanks for the update. I will look for a rev C for a little while or settle for a rev B if I cannot find one. Streaming, voice, and ipsec for work. Thanks

I picked up an A3 for $12 + shipping. Reset to factory defaults just to be sure. Flashed it to 1.37NA and then loaded my config from the 615. All configured settings are good. Just one problem. I cannot get the LAN to connect at 1Gig. My work laptop always connects at Gig while at work. Any ideas? Thanks

Loaded the 615 config file on a 655?
-
Yep. Verified with the 655 emulator that maybe 99% of the config is the same. All settings like network, wireless, firewall, MAC filters, password, etc are the same. New features like USB will remain default. Then, saved the new config. 8)
About the speed issue, I replaced the cable but then needed to reboot the router. Now it shows 1Gig.

Ok, just be advised that it's not recommended to install config files from other model routers. You may be introducing problems or reducing features that other routers may or may not have like the 655 does.
Good luck.
