Title: Trouble setting up - (SHOULD work but isn't)
Post by: Ryemck on August 08, 2014, 01:57:55 AM
Hi all!

So before I explain the problem I'll put what I've already tried.

- Following YouTube tutorials
- Following the manual
- Troubleshooting it myself (I work in IT support)
- Different cables
- Rebooting/factory resetting many times

So I got this router and it looks amazing so I wanted to get it up straight away. I set my virgin media superhub router to modem mode, plugged everything into the relevant ports (triple checked that they were correct) and all tutorials/guides say it should work from there.

However, I can't ping/web browse to the IP address 192.168.0.1 which should be the D-Link's default IP. Also, the "earth" light blinks an orange light and then eventually just goes off. I can connect to the superhub fine if my computer is plugged straight in so there's nothing wrong with that.

Is there any kind of compatibility issues and/or known problems like this? Spent a lot of money on that router and it is just sitting on my desk doing nothing :(

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations

Router and Wired Configurations
Some things to try: - Log into the routers web page at 192.168.0.1. Use IE, Opera or FF to manage the router. Be sure to log into the Admin account on the router.

Wireless Configurations

Router Placement
Forum User - "Well I feel really dumb. After moving the router away from other electronic devices my speeds are back to normal. Just a heads up for anyone experiencing slow speeds, you might want to move it away from other electronics and see if that helps."
3-6' feet minimum safe distance between devices.
Placement on main level floor and central in the building and WELL ventilated is preferred. Not in basements or closets as building materials, or near by electronics devices could interfere or hinder good signal propagation.

PC 3rd Party Security Software Configurations

PC Web Browser Configurations
What browser are you using?
Try Opera or FF? If IE 8, 9, 10 or 11, set compatibility mode and test again.
Disable any security browser Add-ons like No Script and Ad-Block or configure them to allow All Pages when connected to the router.
Clear all browser caches.
Be sure to log into the Admin account on the router.
Try turning off these features in Chrome:
Top right corner, little bars for options > Settings > Settings (on left) > Show advanced settings.
Uncheck these:
Use a web service to help resolve navigation errors
Use a prediction service to help complete searches and URLs typed in the address bar
Predict network actions to improve page load performance
Enable phishing and malware protection

Thanks for replying.

I'm using a wired connection (wireless doesn't even show up on phones). I can't access the router via web browser, tried using internet explorer and chrome.

My ISP is Virgin, I think it's an actual fault with the router as I'm pretty sure I'm doing nothing wrong. Just hope I have it under warranty

I've factory reset it and the default IP is 192.168.0.1 but I can't connect to it :(

Another weird thing is the pinging, I use pinging loads of times a day at work but I've never seen it. When pinging 192.168.0.1 it pings 192.168.0.2 instead and one time it pinged a random address that was 82.47.230.84 or something like that

What region are you located?

I recommend that you return this unit back to the play of purchase for a new one or  phone contact your regional D-Link support office and ask for help and information regarding this. We find that phone contact has better immediate results over using email.

I think this unit is bad.

Let us know how it goes please.

Ya this IS the place to come.  ;D However, we can only do so much. If we can't fix it here. It needs to be looked at by D-Link support and RMA.

Keep us posted.
