Title: Several Items re DIR-655 N+
Post by: richgolfs on August 10, 2014, 03:46:13 PM
I have this unit which i bought a few years back. Had been having other network problems, so decided to check router. In the midst of all that Comcast upgraded from 55Mbs to 105Mbs, happy about that on the wired side.
However, i have to wifi capable devices that are both 802.11n capable, and backwards compatible.
Hardwired side speedtest.net gives me about 105Mbs
the wifi devices I can only get about 30Mbs according to speedtest.net. I have tried everything I can think of.
Have disablled SPI, even went through and fiddled with the radio section, some choices made these units go to a slow crawl, ie about 1Mbs.
I have been reading that there is allegedly 300Mbs throughput, I cant recall but I want to say the 5GHz radio. Yet my firmware for the router doesnt give me the channel options for this.
Firmware is version 2.00NA. I select to see if there is an update, it indicates it is current. This is very frustrating because my brother who has Comcast at 105Mbs and all Mac, including router, iPad, iPhone and wifi MacMini all have speedtest results of 105Mbs
is there something wrong with this unit? firmware? something I am not uderstanding? which is possible so I am asking
I know running out to buy an 802.11ac router won't help as I don't have units that run that spec
TIA

There are newer FW version available...

Wireless speed testing will differ as there are many variables to WiFi that can cause inaccurate results. We don't recommend WiFi speeds testing rather using wired is preferred.

This router can do 300Mb connection rates with client HW that supports it on 2.4Ghz as well. However the client HW has to support it and not all devices support it. Single mode N, Auto Channel Width and WPA2/AES only is bets for 300Mb connection rates. The connection rates are that between the router and the device, not actual data flow.
