Is SB and ABE enabled?
Do you see the same results if you by pass the 5500 and direct test with the DSL modem?
Title: Re: need help with DSL-2540B modem
Post by: revrenc on August 24, 2014, 11:30:56 AM
Hey Furry, yeah both where enabled,  I unhooked the 5500, reset my modem, hooked up only my PC and ran tests and that's the results I got, I bridged my modem and hooked up the 5500, ran tests with basically same results with ABE enabled and disabled,  I get the speeds I subscribe 2, but my ping, jitter and packet loss r bad. I wanted y'all to take a look at my modem stats to see if there is something I can tell my ISP to look at. I also have a westell 7550 that I tried with PC only, with same results

If your seeing same results with and without the router, check all ISP phone lines from pole or box up to the house. Check any junction boxes and make sure the phone likes are correcty wired and filtered. Ask for a dedicated phone line for your modem from the pole or box out side.

Test a different modem if possible or test this current modem at a different location to see if problem follows to rule out the modem.

Thx Furry, how do I check the lines from pole to box. This phone line I use is from the box outside and only has my modem plugged in, as far as I know its not split anywhere. Is that what u mean by dedicated

You'll need to have the phone service tech come out and check the lines. Unless you know of someone with phone line testing equipment.  ::)

Yes...

What would you suggest, out of all the ones I saw on dlink, the one I have offered up to 24 mbps up and up to 3.5 mbps down, and there where only a couple more that did that
Title: Re: need help with DSL-2540B modem
Post by: FurryNutz on August 24, 2014, 12:26:07 PM
Ya most of the D-Link ones don't offer much past 24Mb.

What does your ISP support for modems? Is there a list?

We won't crucify you if you go with a different model modem...What is your ISP speed package you pay for from the ISP?

This one is up to date:

Let me know, if that link doesn't work, I had to enter my area code to get to it

They sent me a zyzel pk5001z, initially, but I didn't like it, so I went with the dlink I have

Ya I don't see D-Link supported on there even though it might work, officially, could be an issue. Stay away from 2wire as some of not most of those modems can't be bridged.

3mb down/ .50 up, is the highest I can get where I live. No cable and only 1 ISP :-(
Title: Re: need help with DSL-2540B modem
Post by: FurryNutz on August 24, 2014, 12:52:35 PM
Well, hold off until the ISP checks the quality first. Then ask them for a modem as well. Have them test with one of there modems.
Title: Re: need help with DSL-2540B modem
Post by: revrenc on August 24, 2014, 02:18:43 PM
gave my ISP a call. they are suppose to be out tomorrow to check everything. i also asked about what modems the are offering and they said it was only 2, the zyxel 5100z and the westell 7500.
Title: Re: need help with DSL-2540B modem
Post by: FurryNutz on August 24, 2014, 02:41:55 PM
Have them bring both. LOL

Make sure they are bridgeable as well and get the PPPoE account information as well for use on the DGL router.

Post by: revrenc on August 24, 2014, 03:02:06 PM
Lol,  I have a 7500 already but I can't get into the menu.  Once I bridge either 1, does it really make a difference
Title: Re: need help with DSL-2540B modem
Post by: FurryNutz on August 24, 2014, 03:14:24 PM
Try the 7500. Ya when you bridge modems, you have to factory reset them to gain access to the menu. It's usually disabled in bridge mode.
Title: Re: need help with DSL-2540B modem
Post by: revrenc on August 24, 2014, 03:46:23 PM
i reset it using the button on the back, i still cant get into the menu, the lights seen to be normal, i just cant get to the menu. i meant does it matter which modem i get, since im just gonna bridge it
Title: Re: need help with DSL-2540B modem

Ensure your PC is set up for automatic IP addressing. IP to modem maybe 192.168.1.1 or .254?

Whats the gateway listed on your PCs network status, you should use the IP address seen there to access the modems web page.
Title: Re: need help with DSL-2540B modem
Post by: revrenc on August 24, 2014, 03:52:53 PM
ill double check when i get home, but i believe i checked all that already, i did ipconfig/all when i was trying to access it and the gateway was blank in command screen
Title: Re: need help with DSL-2540B modem
Post by: FurryNutz on August 24, 2014, 03:55:51 PM
Ya, if GW was blank in the CMD screen then modem isn't giving an IP address when it should. Ensure that you are resetting it to the Mfr process.

hey Furry, the tech just left. he said that everything looked normal with my lines. and that i would experience some paclket loss. i told him that i use to not get packet loss, but that was a couple months ago. he also said that we werent rated for 3.0 down here, omly 1.5. i told him that ive been running 3.0 for over a year now with 0 packet loss, until recently. he is suppose to get with a guy that works ion the substations and see if they did anything on their end.

i asked him while he was here if i was on the closest substation. cuz i live about 10 minutes from the one im on and 5 minutes from another one. he said we where already on the closest one, cuz of the way the lines where run

i figure it has to b something on their end, i talked to the tech a little bit ago/ he called that guy, but that guy hasnt called him back. he said he was gonna tell him to put me back on FAST instead of INTERLEAVED, and see if he knew of any changes. i want my network squared away for when destiny launches. i hope they can get it fixed. if not i may have to fly you down here. i consider you router JESUS, and i have faith that if u lay hands on the substation you will heal my internets, lol

when i do the detailed network stats, nothing is accurate, the speeds are wrong, i get packet loss(which im working on) and the MTU says 1480. i have it set to 1492 in my router. has any1 else run into this on here. i saw where some had strict NATs, but no one mentioned their stats being wrong, that i saw
Title: Re: need help with DSL-2540B modem

Ya, seen odd things on XB1s..what does your ISP say to use for MTU?
Title: Re: need help with DSL-2540B modem
Post by: revrenc on August 25, 2014, 12:37:31 PM
i asked him and he said "its different for different servers", so i dont know if he knew or not. the command line method said 1464 gave 0 packet loss. i think your suppose to add 28, so that gave me 1492
Title: Re: need help with DSL-2540B modem
Post by: FurryNutz on August 25, 2014, 12:54:39 PM
Ya 1492 is standard for DSL....
So using 1464 on the router gives zero packet loss?
Title: Re: need help with DSL-2540B modem
Post by: revrenc on August 25, 2014, 01:26:37 PM
i didnt try 1464 in the router. 1464 was what i got from command line
Title: Re: need help with DSL-2540B modem

Might run this value for a while and see how it does. I think you will be in flux for a while till the ISP can help narrow down where the issue is on there end.  :-\

K, I'll give it a try, do u think the xb1 stats matter at all, its kinda troubling, lol. I saw some people on the Xbox forum having the same issue and they didn't live in the middle of nowhere, lol

Just to let you know Xbox One Mtu is locked at 1480 can't change it.
Also the network test on the one from what I understand is directly to Seattle.
So don't trust that test for your overall network just Xbl.
There has been issues with wireless lately on Xbox one so make sure your wired.
Happy Gaming!

Glad it's working better.

Well when I already have a 360, Boxee Box, DNS-345 to hold additional streaming, don't use Kinect for any gaming, and have a 73" DLP and 40" LCD to play with, and future 100" projector in home room theater coming soon. I think I'm kind of cool already.  ;D

Honestly, I don't have a need for XB1. I wish they made a gamer only version though that ran both XB1 and 360 games. I'd consider it.  :-\ If my 360 gives up the ghost, maybe.

The Xbox One has small issues but it's definitely worth a buy!
I personally like the new kinect it works!
If anything though just get one without kinect!
I love my 360 but the one is so much nicer overall.
Them next Gen graphics on your setup would be godlike!
Halo collection all the halos redone for next Gen only on Xbox One!
Playing on 360 is like seeing an old girlfriend.
I still have feelings for her but I don't wanna hang out.
