Title: Is it the NAS or the hard-drive

As I reported earlier, I have been having trouble with my NAS for the past week or so. At first I thought it was one of the two hard-drives, since LED for the left HD was off, so I went ahead and pulled the drive.

After rebooting the NAS, it seemed to be working well, for a while. Now, once again I can't connect to it either through my Mac, XBMC media center, or through the Web Portal. The LED for the right-side HD is on and I can hear the NAS humming along.

How do I check if the problem is with the NAS or is it with the hard-drive?

Hi again jhumroo,
First, it's is best to just continue with followup posts in the same thread otherwise it becomes difficult if not impossible to figure out / troubleshoot a problem.  Since you have the one drive you thought was bad, do you have the ability to connect it to another PC and run the diagnostic software or not?  If you don't do you know someone who does have this ability.  That will tell you if you have a bad or dying drive.  The same process could be used on the drive still installed, but at this point to try and rediscover your NAS, you could download Dlink's storage utility for your 320 and run it.  This will find your NAS and it's IP in most cases and allow you to login to it.  If it remains "lost", try rebooting your router and / or NAS to see if it shows up.  If all of that fails, it is beginning to look like you have a possible hardware issue with the 320.  A hard reset is also a possible step, use the little "reset" hole on the back, while powered on, insert a toothpick or paper clip for about 10 seconds and then release it.  If it reboots in a couple minutes and remains "visible" on your network, you will have to reconfigure your users and settings.  Then continue to try and trouble shoot.  Good luck

Thank you for the reply. I have had the NAS offline for sometime while I continue to diagnose the HDs. I pulled the drives and am running the WD diagnostics on them. They passed the Quick Test, but still haven't completed the Extended Test. I have two 3TB dives and its still running the diagnostics on the 1st drive, showing 800+ hours remaining.

One thing though, the fact that these drives are continuing to spin and not making crazy sounds makes me think the drives are okay.

I will try resetting the NAS as you suggested and see if that changes anything.

Any other suggestions?

How long of a warranty does the DNS 320 have? Ive had mine for less than 2-years.

I believe the warranty is 1 year and you must carry the box to their service center. It may vary between countries or if it was sold under sales program. But for me, I got mine replaced on the 11th month  :)
