Post by: pitaron on June 23, 2009, 06:55:49 AM
Hi,
I've bought brand new DIR-655. Hardware revision A4, Firmware 1.20. LAN & WAN works OK, but now wireless. In Status I can see: Wireless Init Failed.
Do I sth. wrong with config or it os hw. problem?
Thanks for replay.

Could post the log?

Worst case scenario is that your wireless part is DOA.

Switch works, wireless is kaputt

You can apply for a replacement with your reseller/retailer. If that fails send Lycan a PM.

:) GOOD NEWS: after several resets to factory defaults wireless started and now is up and running. No idea why :-(. I unplugged and plugged it to see if it will be still alive, but it is still working. What do you think should I replace it anyway (I still can) or now all should be all right?

How long is your guarantee holding out? See how it goes for a while. There is still a chance it works out OK, but also a chance that it 's flakey and drops connections.

I would see RMA anyway. That is a telltail sign of the radio starting to go the way of the dodo.

Thanks, I've replaced it. The new one is with firmware 1.21. Just small question: I stored configuration in a file. Can I download it to the new router or I should set it manually?

You should be able to restore.  If there are issues after the restore, just do a factory reset and then configure manually.

I am having the same issue now.  Just bought my router on June 24th, didn't even really start using it until the 21st of July (moved in to new apartment), and it is now August 13th and it failed last night.  Only 3 weeks of wireless and newegg can't RMA it because it's been over 30 days.

What is D-Link's policy on RMA?

Is yours a A4?

If by A4 you mean it has a ...A4 at the end of the P/N then yes mine is an A4.

According to the Dlink support site I have a one year warranty and must call them during hours of operation so a technician can give me a case number.  Then I have to ship it to Dlink, wait X amount of time without my router, and hopefully get it back and not have it fail again.

This... sucks...

I'll have to buy another router to use in the meantime.

You can do a cross shipment.

I just upgraded to Snow leopard on my Mac(wireless) Started losing internet. Networking is fine. Can send and move files from all machines.
So itried my wored machines. Called comcast signal is ok. Saw this in log..
No Internet access policy is in effect. Unrestricted Internet access allowed to everyone
Tried evrything. reboot, factory defaul;ts, etc etc. Static, dynamic ips.
I still had my dlink 615.
Plugged it in and it works.
I dont wanna use 615..snd I bought this on ebay. No telling how old it is etc.
I read one guy said he kept doing factory default resets. I dont understand it. I can share everything, betwen mac, linux and vista machines. Print too. But inet wont come in.(It is working..tested it)

I just bought a Dlink dir-635 today, packed it out and connected it. Without problems I had connection with the internet over wire. However, the Wireless LAN info says: Wireless Radio: Init failed. See the screenshot: http://clip2net.com/page/m0/1975407

I read through all the posts and tried everything. Nothing helped. Shall I go back to the retailer?

That is a sign a a broken radio unit, return it and get a replacement.

I had a DIR655 that has developed this same problem. I followed the same steps that you have all done here but I still have the same result where the Wireless Radio Init fails. I talked with the live tech support and tried to keep it as short as possible since I am out of warranty. I just tried to find out if I could send the unit in for repair and when I spoke to a RMA specialist, I was informed that D-Link does not offer repair option for equipment out of warranty.

Has anybody else run into this problem of acquiring an RMA?

Got the same Wireless Status error, "Init Failed".  RMA'd it to retailer, replacement was ok.

Gave serious thought as to whether to get a different wireless router.  Deciding factor was my belief that a marginal/failing A/C adapter was the cause of many problems with the DIR-655, which I could easily test and replace myself.

Point is, it may be the power supply that's crippled, not the unit itself.

You know, I just had a similar problem where my DIR-655 router would cease activity, all lights go out, internet stop, family scream. The blue power light would flash briefly and intermittently. Turns out it was the power connection, the plug was in the power bar very loose, so I re-plugged it into a wall socket directly. Voila, family is quiet again!
Thanks for the suggestion - it helped.
