Hi there,
I'm a new DGL5500 owner and my router has come shipped with 1.11 (dated 23 October 2013). FYI, I received an error every time I tried to create an account since I bought it over a month ago. That was a pretty frustrating start but on the plus side I have done lots of reading.
It seems that either 1.11B03 or 1.12B03 have been recommended in the past (seemingly over 1.12B05 which is an official FW), but what is the current recommended reliable firmware?
Also, where are the Streamboost bandwidth testing servers geographically located?
Cheers

- What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under the router case.

- What region are you located?
- Are you wired or wireless connected to the router?
- Has a Factory Reset (http://blog.dlink.com/what-is-a-reset-button-when-should-i-use-it) been performed?
- Was a Factory Reset performed before and after any firmware updates then set up from scratch?

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations
- What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
- What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?
- What ISP Modem service link speeds UP and Down do you have?
Beta 03 is more recent then v1.11 that shipped I think.
I highly recommend running the router with it's current version of FW before updating...

Well if it works, give it a go.

I bought it primarily for the streamboost functionality, which works great for me. Quite impressed with the way it manages to deprioritize and throttle downloads when I do other things that need the bandwidth. When I fiddled with custom firmware on other routers of mine, it was a PITA to configure QoS to work well with certain types of transfers
I was asking about where the streamboost servers are located because I wasn't really having any luck with using ABE - seemed to really underestimate my speed which I figured was a geographical issue. Doing a speedtest with streamboost off and manually inputting the figures is doing the trick instead.
What is the current recommended reliable firmware? It seems that 1.11B03 and 1.12B03 have been recommended at various points in time.

Also, from what firmware onwards was the bug of the priorities list order not being saved/resetting on reboot fixed?
-
I recommend if it's working for you now, keep what is loaded for now.
Be aware if something should happen HW wise to the router, your regional D-Link support office may not offer support help since it's not with in there region to support his model router.

Yeah I'm aware that I won't have any support from D-Link; I haven't called a support line before and I've never failed to sort things out on my own before.
My long term plan for the network is to offload wireless from the 5500 completely; I've already moved 2.4ghz off the router because I found my clients were having issues connecting to the 2.4ghz, it was somewhat slow, and the activity would appear to stall frequently. This all disappeared when I moved 2.4ghz to basic N AP.
All I really care about is having streamboost working and the priorities not being reset every time I reboot the router. I haven't rebooted the router in weeks so I'm not sure if it affects 1.11 firmware, but there was a bug with priorities not being saved between reboots right?

Check the bug list:

I personally had good experiences with v1.12 B03
Even though SB is working. Officially if something happens with SB, Its services and the router, support maybe limited for you as long as your ok with that. I do hope it keeps working for you and you will enjoy it.
