Title: Possible to partition a Hard drive ? - even offline then re-insert ?
Post by: keithjmason on November 25, 2014, 10:38:35 AM
Hi,
It looks like its not possible to partition a drive and create 2 Volumes from within the NAS UI, unless I have missed something ?

Other option I was wondering about, is it possible to remove the drive, and then connect up to a unix system, partition the main partition into 2, re-insert the drive and the Dlink NAS happily now has 2 Volumes ?  or just wishful thinking perhaps..?

Thanks!

I would be very wary about using externally formatted HDDs. For the sake of data integrity, I would let the ShareCenter manage the configuration. The only way I know of to obtain multiple partitions are situations similar to the following: e.g. creating a RAID-1 that doesn't use the whole HDD, in which case the remainder can be used to create a JBOD.
