Title: Anyone has issue with their iPad Air 2 connecting with the DIR-880L?
Post by: aycwong2 on December 01, 2014, 08:40:16 PM
My router just keeps rebooting whenever I try to connect with the 5 GHz channel with my iPad Air 2. Didn't matter if I limit it to AC only, or switch is down to N only. The moment my iPad Air 2 tries to connect on that channel, the thing reboots.

My iPhone 5 is connecting fine. Laptops seems to be fine. It's just my iPad Air 2. Now I'm connecting the iPad on the 2.4 GHz channel and it's fine.

Not sure if I found a bug, or this is a hardware bug, or what. I've just upgraded to the 1.02 firmware too just to rule that out.

This is a brand new box (A1 version).

What iOS version is on the iPad?

Router Placement
Forum User - "Well I feel really dumb. After moving the router away from other electronic devices my speeds are back to normal. Just a heads up for anyone experiencing slow speeds, you might want to move it away from other electronics and see if that helps."
3-6' feet minimum safe distance between devices.
Placement on main level floor and central in the building and WELL ventilated is preferred. Not in basements or closets as building materials, or near by electronics devices could interfere or hinder good signal propagation.

I got an iPad Air 2 which is connecting perfectly on the 5Ghz. I never had any issues.
I got FW 1.01

Interesting. I'm on NA (Canada), and upgraded to latest firmware.

My iPad Air 2 is on iOS 8.1. I'm upgrading to 8.1.1 and see if that solves part of the problem.

Now it looks like my iPhone 5 on iOS 8.1.1 is also having issue, but it's more like it just keeps dropping Wifi signal, as oppose to my iPad which kills the router. That issue sounds like it's an apple one from the Apple forum I'm reading.

I have read that if I limit the 5 GHz to a/b/g and not n/ac, then the wifi connectivity issue goes away, but the speed will be affected obviously. I may try that over the weekend.

Thanks for the info. Will keep an eye on this. I guess I need to reconnect my 880L and see how my iPhone 6P and iPad mini connect. I didn't have the latest OS a while back after the FW was updated so I may have not experienced this. I'll hook it up tonite and start testing.

So the 880L went online after work yesterday evening. My MacBook Pro 2007 with OSX 10.10.1 and iPhone 6P with 8.1.1 thats JBd worked well on 5Ghz. I didn't get a chance to test the iPad Mini yet. Will do this evening. I also gamed for a couple of hours with my 360 connected to the 5Ghz radio as well. Gaming was good.

Am having the exact same problem on an IPad Air 2 running 8.3 and DIR-880 running 1.02.

Did you solve this?
