Hello,
For the past year (it's been a pretty long time) we've had serious problems with our internet. The problems have ranged from turning off multiple times a day, to not working for 3 days straight, to just massive ping spikes. In our house we have 6 people so it equates to a ton of devices on the network. I've called our internet provider and DLink countless times and there doesn't seem to be a fix. I'm guessing between all the netflix shows and gaming, we just don't have enough internet to go around which is understandable. This leads me to my question, since we have so many devices connected, is there a way to go into the router and put a cap on each device? For the most part we play games, and when someone jumps on the internet, it drives our ping from a manageable ~100 to over 500... which is absolutely unbearable. if you've ever played LoL, you know the pain... ;D I read in another post that there might be a way to give priority to computers in the house but I lack the router savvyness to get anything to work. If there's anything you can do to help, that would be great.
- Additional information ----- Router is a DIR-655 (hence the forum) ---- IP is Charter. Sorry if this question was posted before, I did a light overview of the forums but I won't lie and say I went through the hundreds of pages of forum posts. Cheers!

- What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under the router case.

- Are you wired or wireless connected to the router?
Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations
- What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
- What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?
- Is ISP Modem/Service using Dynamic or Static WAN IP addressing?
- What ISP Modem service link speeds UP and Down do you have?
- Check cable between Modem and Router, swap out to be sure. Link> Cat6 is recommended. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CAT6)
- Check ISP MTU requirements, Cable is usually 1500, DSL is around 1492 down to 1472. Call the ISP and ask. Link>Checking MTU Values (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=53008.0)
- Any 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz cordless house phones or WiFi APs near by?
- Any other WiFi routers in the area? Link> Use InSSIDer (http://www.techspot.com/downloads/5936-inssider.html) to find out. How many? Use v3, its free.
Router Placement
Forum User - "Well I feel really dumb. After moving the router away from other electronic devices my speeds are back to normal. Just a heads up for anyone experiencing slow speeds, you might want to move it away from other electronics and see if that helps."
3-6' feet minimum safe distance between devices.
Placement on main level floor and central in the building and WELL ventilated is preferred. Not in basements or closets as building materials, or near by electronics devices could interfere or hinder good signal propagation.
