I HAVE JUST BROUGHT A DLINK 505 ROUTER WITH THE INTENTION OF EXPANDING MY EXISTING WIFI COVERAGE (UAM SING LINKYS ROUTER) USING THE REPEATER FEATURE. I AM USING A MAC PC RUNNING ON YOSEMITE 10.10.1. WHEN I PLUG THE DEVICE IN THE LIGHT STAYS RED AND DOES NOT TURN GREEN. NOTHING ON THE PC UNDER WIFI SETTINGS. HAVE RESET . NO IMPACT.
CAN ANYBODY HELP OR DO I HAVE A DFECTIVE MODEL NEEDS TO BE RETURNED ?
THNAK YOU

- What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under the router case.
- Link>What Firmware (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=47512.0) version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status or on the box.
- What region are you located?
Did you read the user manual for set up instructions and connect up a wired LAN PC to the 505 for initial set up and configuration?

Hi Susanna,
First you have to set up your device.
Set the mode-switch to "Repeater"
Setup the WiFi-device on your computer. Find the "dlink-<4 characters>" and provide the password that is provided with the papers of the D-Link
Next open the browser-page of the D-Link with "http://dlinkrouter<4-characters>/index", no password needed.
Setup you WiFi on the D-Link. Use the manual mode. Search your accesspoint and provide your password.
When this is finished your computer should have Internet-access.
Good luck!
