Title: router no longer accessible after firmware upgrade
Post by: Njfz50 on December 15, 2014, 07:44:45 AM
Last night I was trying to upgrade firmware on my DIR655 from 2.03 to the latest. During the upgrade the screen displayed "please wait 130 seconds" and start counting down. After the count down the admin screen in the web browser disappeared and localhost is no longer accessible. the power indicator stay in yellow (either flashing or steady)
I waited about 5 minutes and tried to reboot device. No luck. the router login page is no longer accessible. I am not sure if the upgrade failed and firmware corrupted and the router is no longer accessible?
Please help and thanks in advance!

Where you LAN wired connected to the router?
Did you use IE for FF to update the FW?
Did you disable any browser add-ons and PC security temporarily while updating the FW?

Try this:
Emergency Recovery Mode (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=44909.0)

Please follow this for doing any future FW updates on D-Link routers:

Thanks for the quick reply!

What region are you located?
New Jersey
Was the router working before any firmware updates?
Ever since I bought a Samsung tablet it start to lost internet connection. Not sure if this is a coincidence. (I have couple of apple devices and 2 samsung tablelets. My wife could watch youtube/nextflix all day long using apple devices without any issue. But once I start turning on wifi in my 2 samsung devices I start to experience issues. Normally watching youtube for about 2 hours will break my router). I have to reboot it each time in order to get it back to work. That is why I wanted to upgrade firmware

Try the recovery mode. Please use IE or FF with all browser add-ons disabled and PC security programs temporarily disabled.

We don't recommend using Chrome for any FW updates as we've seen it brick routers. Configuration of the router with Chrome is ok.

There has been some issues with Samsung and Rev A model routers and was fixed with v1.37 fw. I have not seen much, if any, on Rev B routers.

Ya, that only effects Rev A model routers and like i said, it was fixed in v1.37 last year.

When and if you get your router recovered, lets go from there and see how it works.

i was able to get my router upgraded to the latest 2.11 last night so all set. I created a guest network and put the 2 samsung tablet on that network.
while I was playing around with another working DIR655 at home (I have two units, one is broken) I discovered that the reason I had problem was that my home PC have default gateway set up as 10.10.10.1, and after the firmware upgrade the router is on 192.168. Anyway, that Emergency Recovery Mode fixed my router.
Thanks a lot.
