Title: DCS 932l - How do I find external IP address?
Post by: rowdyplace on December 18, 2014, 11:53:49 AM
All setup with 2 Dlink cams (930 & 932) and I can see the video on my android and pc using Mydlink.  That works just fine!!  I want to identify the external IP address for each camera.

I have a unique hardware installation. Receiving ATT Uverse internet thru the ATT Uverse "modem" - "4-port router" set up as 192.168.1.x.

1 port out of there (192.168.1.x) goes to to an Apple router for the whole house to share wireless and wired connections for internet and file (movie) sharing.  Output internal ip range is 10.0.1.x for household connections - wired and wireless.

Another port out (192.168.1.x) from the ATT goes to a Belkin wireless router (WAN input)  that is being used to isolate the "security" network from the rest. This output is set to 192.168.5.x. The cameras were setup on this device using the short NIC cable and are both now working well wireless.  Yes, they can be seen from my local bar or laundromat using Mydlink software on my laptop and/or android.

How can I determine the external IP address for each camera??

The cameras well not have a external IP address. Only a Internal 192.168 address that they get from the main host router. The Main host router will have a public IP address only on the WAN port side.

Thanks for the quick response!!

I sortalike your answer - but - How does the Mydlink software "see" the cameras?  They are available to you on your desktop right now (with the mydlink username and password).  I can PM that to you for testing...

Maybe I am looking for the external IP address/port number.

The translation from external IP address to LAN side IP address is done by the main host router that had NAT.
How NAT Works (http://computer.howstuffworks.com/nat.htm)

MDL sort of handles the data like web browsing. Not dependent upon any ports or IPs being used. Just so long as NAT is single and cameras have access to the Internet with out any hindrances.

This seems to be a link to a bunch of advertising...  I cannot find anything technical.  Is this what you wanted me to read?
