Title: Can someone help with a few problems?
Post by: Jibe on June 25, 2009, 02:22:34 PM: I have had this router for about three months, and I have been struggling with two problems ever since

The first problem is the intermittent connection... About once an hour the connection randomly drops for about 15 seconds then my computer re-connects. There is this problem with everyone's computer that lives in the same house as me. I have spoke with costumer support, went through their whole process, but to no avail.

The second problem is the Port Forwarding... I play Warcraft 3 and I used to be able to host, but when I set this router up it stopped working. I set up the port forwarding screen on the router page. I have disabled my windows firewall and my mcafee firewall. I have no idea what is wrong...

I appreciate the insight into many of the options for trying to fix the issue of random drops and re-boots. I also appreciate the honesty the site mods have when answering or attempting to answer both the simple and complex questions that come they're way.
This may be asking an awful lot, then again, maybe this request has been fulfilled, so here goes:
1. Would it be possible to have a complete list of all possible suggestions for stopping the internet drops? I have tried most if not all suggestions, but I really want to make sure I haven't missed anything. My router is dropping internet access every 15 minutes now. I am still not willing to throw in the towel just yet.
2. I read somewhere about the proper way to do a reset for this router (other than just holding the reset button for 10 seconds). Can someone point me to this thread. I am terrible at search querries, end up with pages containing everything except what I am looking for :)
3. I really like D-Link products so, if I have to get a 'very reliable 'N' router, which one would you guys suggest from the D-Link family? (I know, beyond the realms of this forum, but I am desperate) here). Please don't say 'a new 655 with 1.11firmware!'

I have an old g-router that is half-broken (only provides connection speeds of about 5mb/s) that I might install again if there is no fix... I called D-Link support about the router (I had 1.21 which was a little better) and they told me to upgrade to 1.31, so now I can't downgrade...

Sry, i thought you ment something like this 30/30/30 that does not work with this router as Demonized said already.

Best way to upgrade firmware is to restore factory setting via gui before and after upgrade.. Why not some reset button too. And do not restore any old configuration files...

Trying to learn or 'acquire' some experience in networking. The world's a pretty big place and noobs like myself are thankful for forums like this to help with our mere mortal challenges.

Clancy, thanks for all the information you posted. My router hasn't gone down in 36 hours and counting. I may slowly start to enable some of the features this router has just to try and pinpoint which ones are giving my setup the problems.
