Title: DHCP Relay on de DIR-810L
Post by: dawed on December 22, 2014, 12:12:22 PM
Hello,

I buyed the DIR-810L some days ago because my old access point broke up.
My ISP Router have an integrated Switch with DHCP but i'm unable to broadcast the informationes over the DIR-810L Router...
So my ISP Router isn't connected on the WAN Port, only to the LAN Port...

Is this configuration not possible?
Or may i can add some Gateway to the DHCP for the Wireless clients that my ISP Router is the Gateway?

I have Hardware Version: A1 Firmware Version: 1.01
Region Europe (Switzerland)
Thanks a lot

Hi,

if I understand your scenario right, you want to use the DIR-810L device as a replacement for your broken access point. Typically an access point has no routing function but only bridges WiFi frames to wired LAN. Hence if you want to operate your DIR-810L the same way, you can't use it as a router but have to use it as a bridge. You do this by not using its WAN port to connect to your ISP router, but use a LAN port instead. Switch off DHCP server function on DIR-810L, and for its LAN interface configure an address out of the network defined by your ISP router (don't use an address out of the DHCP pool, defined by your ISP router but from the network range that is not covered by the DHCP pool and hence is reserved for static configurations of devices in this network). You don't have to configure your DIR-810L for Internet access, it is just an additional switch that enhances your wired network and an access points that connects (bridges) wireless clients to the wired network.

Are you connecting to the DIR wireless or a different wireless?

Please give feedback to the questions presented so we can get a better idea of your situation and offer suggestions.

I've solved the problem...
My Netopia-7000 Swisscom Router broke up step by step...
With luck a friend of mine had an other one and now everything works fine...

Bad luck that my older AP and my Router at same time brokes up...

thanks for help
