Title: USB device = Sd-card more than 2 GB

Since the SD-cards are growing in size, I want to use an SD card to share with my DIR-845L. Firmware 1.05b
Unfortunately it accepts only a 2GB SD-card and not a 4,  8 or 64 GB card.
Is this problem solveable?
The router accepts my external harddisk of 500 GB

• What region are you located?

Are you using a SD to USB converter?

Routers only have a USB drive supported media and may not support any SD media or USB to SD converters. I presume that anything over 2Gb is not supported.

I am using

• a Kinston converter for Micro-SD to USB  or
• a Sandisk converter for Standard SD to USB ( and putting the Micro-SD into a SD-card-converter)

I'm pleased to say that I just had a good connection using the first option and using a 8GB card.
I formatted it with the SDFormatter V4.0 (Windows)
Still doing some research.
There is no documentation about maximum SD-card formats.

OK, I presume that maybe that standard USB HDD drives are what most Mfrs maybe only test and support these kinds of drives where some may test some. I know that the DIR-857, and 827 routers had SD card slots and were supported and tested. I presume that since the 850 series routers don't, that SD cards may not be officially supported and have limited size requirements.

Found the solution!
The SD-card was formatted in exFAT.
Because of the large size of the SD card FAT32 was not enough. FAT32 stops at 32 GB, according to Wikipedia.
So I formatted with NTFS (result 58 GB)
It works on (same SD card of "64" GB)
DNS-327L ( 58.40 GB )
DIR-845L  ( 61.2  GB )
Next step ReFS ?

Hard to tell from his initial post. He claimed only 2 gb cards worked. Nothing else.

Ya but I should have asked about formatting. Formatting is a big thing. Routers mainly recognize FAT/Fat32 and NTFS. FAT and Fat 32 limit drive size where NTFS doesn't. Oh well. He found it.  ;)
