I just bought one of these for a single purpose. I just want to be able to stream music to my AV amp and it's working pretty well BUT there seems to be no way to randomise all the music. Im currently using Serviio on my PC and really good and creates randomised playlists automatically and sends them through DNLA to my AV amp. Is there any way to get the 323 to do this kind of thing?
At the moment, the music serving capabilities seem to be really limited - basic folder browsing, artists, albums and playlists (which you have to create somewhere else).

The DNS-323 was released over 7 years ago, when media streaming was still coming out of its infancy. Since the DNS-323 was discontinued some time ago, several newer generation ShareCenter models were released (and more to come!) all of which have the functionality you are looking for.

Thank you!
Can you recommended a model that will do what I need?

I'm enjoying my DNS-345. ;)

If you're looking for a two bay model the sequential successors to the DNS-323 are: DNS-323 > DNS-320 > DNS-320L > DNS-327L. I would lean towards an "L" model, as this will enable you to access the ShareCenter remotely using D-Link's mydlink service and mobile apps. That said, D-Link has incrementally improved the add-on/sharing/streaming capabilities with each successive model. The DNS-327L is currently D-Link's best consumer two-bay NAS.

Adding to my last post, I recommend visiting support.dlink.com (http://support.dlink.com/) and downloading/reading the user manuals for the models I've described to see which one best suits your needs. Again, the latter the model, the better the add-on support and other capabilities will be.

Thanks but from what I can see in the manuals, only mp3 files are supported. As most of my music is on FLAC or ALAC, I'm not sure any of it will work with the devices. Had anyone has experience with music files other than mp3 on these devices?

Your best bet is to visit the DNS-327L and DNS-320L boards and post explicit questions to other users.
More importantly, please visit this board: ShareCenter® Add-on Applications (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?board=423.0) which lists additional add-ons, some of which offer media server capabilities for different media types. The posts indicate which model the add-ons work with.
