Is the DIR-860L compatible with a Windows 8.1 cell phone and WiFi? The 5 GHz band works great with the Lan and Wifi for Windows 7 computers. The older laptop using Windows Vista works great with the 2.4Ghz band. The Windows 8.1 phone can only see the 2.4Ghz band and continually returns a bad password error. The box only mentions iOS and Android. Since everything works I hesitate to start changing settings. Thank you.

- What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under the router case.
- Link>What Firmware (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=47512.0) version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.
- What region are you located?
They should...

- Ensure the default (dlink) SSID name is changed. Can be anything and not something that's already in use by any neighboring WiFi routers. Under Setup/Wireless/Manual.
- What wireless modes are you using?
- 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz routers: Try single mode G or N or mixed G and N on 2.4Ghz and single mode N or AC on 5Ghz?
- Channel Width set for Auto 20/40Mhz or try 20Mhz only.
- Try setting a manual Channel (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wireless_channels) to a open or unused channel. 1, 6 or 11. 11 for single mode N if the channel is clear. 13 for EU regions. Try channel 48 or 149 on 5Ghz.
- What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES Only. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advanced_Encryption_Standard), so you might want to try TPIK (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Temporal_Key_Integrity_Protocol) only or Auto TPIK and AES.
Do the Windows phone connect if you temporarily disable WiFi security? Re-enable after testing.

Any status on this?

I am having a similar issue with the DIR-826L router that has just started for me. I have two Nokia Lumia Icon phones (929) that just stopped connecting to my wifi network since i updated the firmware to 1.05.
I have the DIR-826L, hardware version A1, firmware 1.05, region NA.
My SSID is a unique name.
Using modes 2.4: N-G-B and 5.0: N-A my phones do not connect.
I just switched the 2.4 modes to N-G and it now seems that everything is connecting.
Any idea if there is some documented incompatibility with the B mode? Hopefully this is a permanent solution and doesn't revert at some point in the near future.

I would check with the Mfr of the phones to see what they officially support. B mode is still supported however I wouldn't give mush use for it as most new devices in the past 5 years mostly support G modes and beyond. B mode is getting to be out dated and I presume maybe i the next 5 years it may fall off as being supported by router Mfrs depending on what the WiFi Cert community deems. 2.4Ghz A mode finally fell off a couple of years ago.
If changing to mixed G and N mode only seems to have fixed it then there maybe a handling issue with the phones on how they work in mixed modes.
I recommend Mixed G and N mode or single N mode if you don't have any devices that needs G mode. WPA2 and AES only is preferred.
