I just setup the DIR-880L replacing my DIR-865. Something is not right. The 2.4GHz band SSID stops being advertised after a few minutes and will not take any connections. It will either not show. Or say "incorrect password". Or say "unable to connect". This is on either an iPod, iPad, or an Android 4.4.x phone.
The 5.0 band seems stable and works.
I have tried restricting the 2.4Ghz to 802.11 g/n. I have tried turning off coexistence. I have tried setting the wi-fi channel to a location that is clear. I have changed the ssid name. Changed the password. Rebooted the router. Updated the firmware to 1.02. Nothing changes.
When I use a wi-fi analyzer it shows my ssid appearing and disappearing. It grows strong about -45 then drops away to zero. Then comes back. Meanwhile, my neighbors will stay steady at about -68 on channel 6.
Any thoughts out there? I have HW: A1, FW: 1.02.

Was a factory reset performed before and after updating FW then set from scratch.
Any other wifi neighbors near by seen w InSSiDer? How many?
Wht channel are you using? Try manual channel 11?

I did not do a factory reset after updating the firmware. There are only two neighbors of interest when scanning. One is set on channel 6. the other on channel 11. Which is why I set on channel 1 since the "auto" kept picking 6. I can change to 11. Still very odd that the SSID or signal comes on, then disappears . I will try channel 11 and the factory reset.

OK. So I have tried the factory reset. I also contacted tech support. So far, no idea. Even on default, factory reset the 2.4Ghz wifi appears, then drops away for a long time. Might come back for 30 sec, then disappear for anther few minutes, etc.

I would either return the router to place of purchase and get another or get an RMA from D-Link support. The radio should not be dropping if the channel is clear.
Keep us posted.
