Hi,
I bought this router about 2 weeks ago. Setup went fine. Now about every other morning when I wake up, the router has turned off. None of the front lights are on. I have to reset this and it's getting annoying. Does anyone know what the problem could be? Once I turn it back on, all devices connect just fine. But I would like if I didn't have to do this every other day. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Please.....talk down to me. I am not computer savvy at all. I will not be offended. ;D
Thanks,
lisa

- Check ISP MTU requirements, Cable is usually 1500, DSL is around 1492 down to 1472. Call the ISP and ask. Link>Checking MTU Values (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=53008.0)
- For DSL/PPPoE connections on the router, ensure that "Always ON" option is enabled.

- Ensure the default (dlink) SSID name is changed. Ensure that different SSID names are used between each WiFi 2.4/5Ghz radios. Can be anything and not something that's already in use by any neighbouring WiFi routers. Under Setup/Wireless/Manual.

Router Placement
Forum User - "Well I feel really dumb. After moving the router away from other electronic devices my speeds are back to normal. Just a heads up for anyone experiencing slow speeds, you might want to move it away from other electronics and see if that helps."
3-6' feet minimum safe distance between devices.
Placement on main level floor and central in the building and WELL ventilated is preferred. Not in basements or closets as building materials, or near by electronics devices could interfere or hinder good signal propagation.

Try a different power wall out let to see if problem still happens. You may have a bad power adapter as well or the unit could be faulty...

Thanks for your response.
•What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under the router case.
Ver.:B1
•Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.
Firmware Version 2.01
•What region are you located?
US - East Coast

Wireless
The router is not near a wireless phone. I did change the default SSID name. It is not the same as any neighbors and 2.4 is different from 5.2. I have a modem through my cable company. I didn't have any problems with the router turning off with my last Linksys. it just couldn't support all my devices. I haven't tried the different outlet thing but I will attempt that tonight. If that doesn't work, are there any other suggestions?

Turn off all devices and disconnect all devices before going to bed. Check router in the morning.
Factory reset the router, reload the v2.01 FW file, factory reset once more then set up from scratch.

Since your on a Cable ISP system, the PPPoE info can be dis-regarded now that we know of your ISP modem configuration. PPPeE is for DSL ISP services which you don't have.
Regarding your ISP modem configuration:
Your model modem seems to be a VoIP gateway modem. This means it may have a built in router: If the ISP modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems: Link>Double NAT (http://www.practicallynetworked.com/networking/fixing_double_nat.htm) and How NAT Works (http://computer.howstuffworks.com/nat.htm). To tell if the modem is bridged or not, look at the routers web page, Status/Device Info/Wan Section, if there is a 192.168.0.# address in the WAN IP address field, then the modem is not bridged. If the modem can't be bridged then see if the modem has a DMZ option and input the IP address the router gets from the modem and put that into the modems DMZ.
What does the WAN or Internet IP address have on the 810L under Status/Device Info? ##.##.###.### or 192.168.#.?
Your model modem has been discontinued. I recommend asking the ISP for an upgrade at some point. We recommend ArrisMotorola SB 6141 models if your ISP supports them.
Any other WiFi routers in the area that maybe causing interferences? Link> Use InSSIDer to find out. How many? Use v3, its free.
How far away is the 810L from the ISP modem?

The WAN IP address is not the 192 number. It is something entirely different.
thank you for all your help. I sincerely appreciate it. I think the best solution for me would just be to return this router and exchange it for something else. Btu again. I appreciate all you assistance. You have been great to try and help!

Understand. Please give a different DIR series model router a try. You may only have a defective unit and just need another or different model router. Give a DIR-820L, 816L, 826L or 836L router a try.
Hope you find something good. Let us now how it goes.
Good Luck
