Title: DHCP limited to 254 clients?
Post by: uhu on February 16, 2015, 04:35:23 AM
Just setting up a DSR-250N, and finding that the DHCP server is limited to max 254 clients.
Is this a design fault, a programming error, or ?  Do other routers with DHCP server have the same limitation?

I have tried configuring the LAN as a whole class A (8 bit), a whole class B (16 bit), and a supernetted class C network (16 to 23 bits), and the result is the same. If I specify a range of more than the size of a class C chunk of addresses, I get the message "IP Address range should be lesser than or equal to 255".  I would like to have twice as many addresses in the pool, to cater for all the hand-held devices coming and going all day.

Also, not related, I can't get the management program to work properly in all browsers. E.g. the "right click on a wireless profile to edit" works only in Firefox, not in IE or Crome. But then the typing in e.g. IP-number fields is flaky, in that cursor keys don't work initially, only typing and mouse-clicking.  Is this observed by other users?

It could be by design that there is only 254 max since using one IP address pool is already limited to 254 IP addresses.

I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and ask for help and information regarding this. We find that phone contact has better immediate results over using email.
Let us know how it goes please.
