Title: DWM 221 4G modem bridge mode?
Post by: ubee on March 28, 2015, 06:57:48 AM
Does anyone know if this USB modem works in bridge mode, i.e. exposed the public IP adress to your computer/router? The reason I ask I have tried two different USB 4G modems from Chineese vendors and the both do NAT, i.e. show an local IP adress if you check with ipconfig.  This prevents me from setting up a server on the local network. I can't reach the server from internet. I hope this modem does not manipulate the IP adress!

Review the user manual to see if this model modem has bridge mode features. This seems to be a modem only kind of adapter so router features maybe limited.

  • What region are you located?

Unfortunately no info about this in the manual! Thatīs why I raised the question in this forum!

I presume if it's not listed in the User Manual, then it may not be supported. I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and ask for help and information regarding this. We find that phone contact has better immediate results over using email.
Let us know how it goes please.

I can verify the modem works in bridge mode. I bought a modem and verified this myself. Actually it is very a strange a modem works in any different mode, but the Chineese modems I've tried both implemented a NAT function for some reason. And this makes those modems useless if you would like to run a server on your machine. At least if they do not support port forwarding. Really strange. However, this D-Link modem works as espected!

No, the modem just works in this  mode. And that is the way you expect a modem to behave!

Ok sounds like the modem works as you expect it to.

Enjoy.
