Title: Can't access LAN files
Post by: lubepimp on April 19, 2015, 09:14:13 AM
I've had a DIR-825 running in my house for my home office and other uses for several years now...hardware version A1. For the past few months the router would continually drop internet access and wi-fi wasn't always available, I assume partly because we've added so many new devices to the wi-fi lately (smart TV's, cell phones, xbox, etc.). A friend suggested I upgrade the firmware, which I have done to version 1.14 NA. this seems to have resolved connectivity issues but I am now having problems accessing files on our shared business PC, I try to open MS Excel files and they timeout, pdf's are slow to open, etc. etc. This was never an issue before. I've fiddled with many settings but am at a loss. The PC hosting the files is on ethernet, I have specified both on the PC and the router to use 10mbps/.half-duplex (as it was before). PC's trying to access the files are on wi-fi.

Any suggestions?

Router Placement
Forum User - "Well I feel really dumb. After moving the router away from other electronic devices my speeds are back to normal. Just a heads up for anyone experiencing slow speeds, you might want to move it away from other electronics and see if that helps."
3-6' feet minimum safe distance between devices.
Placement on main level floor and central in the building and WELL ventilated is preferred. Not in basements or closets as building materials, or near by electronics devices could interfere or hinder good signal propagation.
