Title: Add DIR-615 as Wi-Fi access point to domain with static IPs only
Post by: igormat on April 20, 2015, 02:17:52 PM
Hi,
I was trying to add Wi-Fi to existing wired network. I was following advices from FurryNutz (very clear and logical), but when it comes to the subnet in our network (10.0.0.x, 255.255.255.255) – I can’t assign the right IP address. When I connect a computer to DIR-615 with wired Ethernet connection – everything is fine, I can use a static IP on my laptop. However, the IP address on a wireless network adapter can only get 192.168.0.x range.
I’ve tried to assign IP address without DHCP to no avail.
Then I’ve enabled DHCP, assigned the range 10.0… instead of 192.168…, even used DHCP reservation, but only get 192.168… subnet IP address for my wireless network adapter.
When I try to assign static IP 10.0… on the wireless network adapter – it’s not connecting to the network.
If it is not possible to change wireless subnet – I’d like to know about it.
Any advice is greatly appreciated
Igor

Disable DHCP on the 615 then set the 615s router IP address from 192.168.0.1 to 10.0.0.50. Make sure this address isn't used on the main host routers network. If it ies, try .254 or .215. Use same subnet mask. Save settings and test.

Hello FurryNutz
Thanks for a immediate reply.
It's Dir-615E3, Firmware is 5.12, from May 21, 2013
Our subnet is 10.0.0.x
As per your advice, I've changed the router's IP to 10.0.0.254
The assigned IP is still 192.168.0.100, GW 192.168.0.1, same DNS and DHCP servers

FurryNutz, is there any way to set up a subnet for wireless LAN on DIR-615 without enabling DHCP?
Thank you

If yo set the 615s router IP address to the same subnet was your main one, and disable DHCP on the 615, then any wireless or wired client should get the 10.0.0.x addressing...

Thank you very much for your help.
I've checked again Windows Wireless adapter settings, and found a mistake.
Apparently, there was a conflict between 2 adapters from the same computer trying to connect to the same domain, not on the router.

Best regards,
Igor
