Title: vlan's on dgs-1100-8 and dgs-110-26

Hi to all.
THIS IS MY QUESTION
i have 3 adsl connection on the 8 port switch and i must put them in different's vlan for managing my network.
THIS IS MY SITUATION:
situation on dgs-110-8:
connection 1/port 1/vid 1
connection 2/port2/vid2
connection 3/port3-4-5-6/vid 3
port 8 used for the uplink with the 26 ports switch
situation on dgs-1100-26
port 24 used for uplink with the 8 port switch
port1/vid1
port2/vid2
port3-4-5-6/vid3

wath kind of configuration i need to do to make this network working??

i really need help cause i've read a lot of manuals and i've done a lot of trys but i can't find a solution.

PLEASE HELP ME!!

Just need to know where your located so we can provide any regional information that goes with your model product. Some products are not sold world wide.

I've asked a couple of users to review this and maybe help provide feed back. I don't have any experience in this area to help you.

Hi,

first of all I have to say that I'm not a user of such D-Link switches, hence like you I can only use the manual (http://www.dlink.com/-/media/Business_Products/DGS/DGS%201100/Manual/DGS_1100_Series_Manual_v104_EN_US.pdf) and translate the information starting at page 29 into what I believe is an appropriate configuration for your case. At least this method was successful in another case (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=61781.0).

According to your needs for port 8 of your DGS-1100-8 and port 24 of your DGS-1100-24, which have to transmit and receive frames tagged 1, 2 or 3, you can't use port-based VLANs. Instead you have to enable 802.1Q VLAN. When you do so, the default is that all ports are members of VLAN 1, sending and receiving untagged frames only. Also be aware that the management interface of a switch is only accessible via VLAN 1 by default. I assume that you want to leave this setting as is, hence when configuring any switch via its Web-GUI take care that your admin PC is connected to a port whose setting will not be changed from its default setting "VLAN 1 untagged". I suggest you use port 7 of your DGS-1100-8 and any of the ports 7-23 of your DGS-1100-24 when configuring the switches now or later on. Second, from the IP range you want to use for VLAN 1 select two unique addresses and replace the default management address (10.90.90.90/8) of each switch by these new addresses, before you start any further VLAN configuration. You can use "Device Settings" inside SmartConsole Utility to change the switches' addresses (see pages 11-16 of the manual).

Starting with  DGS-1100-8 (admin PC connected to port 7, management address already changed as described above), connect to the Web-GUI (using the new management address), select "VLAN > 802.1Q VLAN" and enable 802.1Q VLAN. You will see a single VLAN with VID 1, no VLAN Name and all ports 1-8 belonging to this VLAN with setting "Untagged". Execute the following steps:

• Edit VLAN 1 by clicking its VID number. Change port 8 from "Untagged" to "Tagged". Leave ports 1-7 unchanged ("Untagged"). You should also define a VLAN Name. Click "Apply".
• Back to "802.1Q VLAN Settings" click "Add VID" and enter VID=2 and any VLAN Name (different from any already existing VLAN Name for other VIDs) you like. Set port 2 to "Untagged". This will remove port 2 from VLAN 1 and assign it to VLAN 2. Set port 8 to "Tagged". Leave ports 1 and 3-7 in state "Not Member". Click "Apply".
• Back to "802.1Q VLAN Settings" click "Add VID" and enter VID=3 and any VLAN Name (different from any already existing VLAN Name for other VIDs) you like. Set ports 3-6 to "Untagged". This will remove these ports from VLAN 1 and assign them to VLAN 3. Set port 8 to "Tagged". Leave ports 1-2 and 7 in state "Not Member". Click "Apply".
• For any port 1-7 you would use PVID=VID as assigned by steps 1-3 (ports 1, 7: VID=PVID=1; port 2: VID=PVID=2; ports 3-6: VID=PVID=3). I'm not sure if the switch requests a PVID for port 8. If so you can't use VIDs 1-3, because frames belonging to these VLANs are sent tagged. Hence you need a dummy VLAN 4 that is just used as PVID for port 8. Back to "802.1Q VLAN Settings" click "Add VID" and enter VID=4 and any VLAN Name (different from any already existing VLAN Name for other VIDs) you like. Set port 8 to "Untagged" and leave ports 1-7 in state "Not Member".
• Back to "802.1Q VLAN Settings" click "PVID settings" and set PVID values to ports 1-8 as follows (if not already set automatically): 1, 2, 3, 3, 3, 3, 1, 4.

Proceeding with  DGS-1100-24 (admin PC connected to one of the ports 7-23, management address already changed as described above), connect to the Web-GUI (using the new management address), select "VLAN > 802.1Q VLAN" and enable 802.1Q VLAN. You will see a single VLAN with VID 1, no VLAN Name and all ports 1-24 belonging to this VLAN with setting "Untagged". Execute the following steps:

• Edit VLAN 1 by clicking its VID number. Change port 24 from "Untagged" to "Tagged". Leave ports 1-23 unchanged ("Untagged"). You should also define a VLAN Name. Click "Apply".
• Back to "802.1Q VLAN Settings" click "Add VID" and enter VID=2 and any VLAN Name (different from any already existing VLAN Name for other VIDs) you like. Set port 2 to "Untagged".
