We've had our Dlink DCS-5222L for a while (about 6 months) and just after this weekend it started to display black & white only.
I've followed the suggestions here: http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=47663.0
That didn't change anything, I've also tried downgrading the firmware as I've recently upgraded it to 2.0.3 so I went back to 2.0.2 with no change.
I've also tried forcing the light on and off using the android app and I made sure that the IR light is going on/off (using a camera to pickup if the lights were on/off). The IR is turning on/off correctly but the picture in both VLC & the web interface is black and white. We have two other DCL-5222L in the building and these are working correctly.

Possible the the one unit could be faulty, if any of the suggestions you try don't work to fix this, I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and ask for help and information regarding this. We find that phone contact has better immediate results over using email.
Let us know how it goes please.

The tech support call went well. In the end all my settings were correct and I was on the latest firmware already. We backed up my settings, factory reset the device and loaded my old settings. This fixed the black and white only problem.

Awesome, glad you got it working. Enjoy. ;)

From what you described it sounds like the camera was somehow locked in Night Mode, which is the only setting that would cause black and white imagery. As D-Link technical support suggested, a factory reset is usually the best course if the web UI settings are non responsive.
