Hi guys I have compiled and upgraded my router with OpenWRT firmware found here: http://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/d-link/dir-655 (http://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/d-link/dir-655) but after upgrade, router can't fully boot, i can't understand why, and I dont know where to find serial console pins on PCB to see kernel messages. Can you help me to find serial console output pins?
Also I have compiled the GPL source code found here: http://tsd.dlink.com.tw/GPL.asp (http://tsd.dlink.com.tw/GPL.asp) add to my router a few new routing features and telnetd support, and it works just fine now, but I want to try OpenWRT on it anyway.
Can someone help me with serial output pins or kernel debuging?

You might try the OpenWRT forums to see if any users there can help you or contact anyone at OpenWRT and see if there is help for there FW.
D-Link maintains information on there HW and is usually not made public for company reasons. Not sure if there are any pins on this model router as it's a moderately low end router meant for home use and any diagnostic abilities may have been removed during final Mfr'g. The 655 Rev A and B have to been supporting of 3rd party FW even though there is GPL code for it. DDWRT doesn't support it. I believe due to the boards not being Broadcom rather a Ubicom HW that was bought a while ago by Qualcom. Most Qualcom/Ubicom HW didn't support 3rd party FWs. :-\
I do see one serial pin connection on the board however I have no idea of its configuration. ::)

Have you looked at your board to see if there is a similar pin connection on yours?

Thanks for quick answer FurryNutz, i will try my luck on OpenWRT forum.

Let us know if you find out anything. Good Luck. ;)

Yes i found 2 free connectors on my router PCB, but not found any serial output on any pin.

Ok, Ya, I don't know the configuration of those pins and not sure if you could get this information from D-Link if you phone contacted them. Again, there might not be any support for any 3rd party FW on these routers.
You can and should be able to recover the router with OEM FW using this process when you need:
Emergency Recovery Mode (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=44909.msg163599#msg163599)
Let us know if you find out anything from the other forums. ;)

Thanks for advise FurryNutz. :)
I recovered my router and successfully flashed my custom build firmware on it again, "Emergency Recovery Mode" is a great thing. ;D
I will let you know if find out anything about 3rd party FWs.

Glad it worked. ;)

Just 2 things more to ask.
Is this an official D-link forum?
Can i upload my custom fw images here to help someone?
-
Yes this is an official D-Link forum and only supports D-link OEM FW.
-
You'll need to refer to the OpenWRT forum for help and information there.
This is a offical D-Link OEM forum.
If your having problems with your router using OEM FW, please post and lets see if we can help you identify the problem.
The DIR-655 series does not support 3rd party FW.
My router crashes very often and drives me crazy. :'(
I want to try if you are willing to share your compiled openwrt firmware and flash howto. :)
