Title: Goodsync and Error 5?
Post by: rc-dc on July 02, 2009, 07:47:01 PM
I'm using my DNS-323 with two 1TB drives, and Goodsync to backup one drive to the other.  Sometimes I sync and get "error 5" which will not allow me to copy from one drive to the other.  Goodsync says this is a Windows permissions issue, but when I try to manually copy, create, paste files I have no trouble. I don't change the data that much to backup daily, so I can't pinpoint one thing I'm doing to mess it up.

One solution that worked was to create a new folder on each drive, manually move all the files to the new folders, then sync again - no troubles. This keeps cropping up randomly, so I'd like to figure out what's going on.

Has anyone else had this problem?  Many thanks.

Any reason why you didn't use RAID-1 (mirroring) from beginning?  No need for goodsync with RAID-1...

Just a little nervous. Still have a large learning curve with networking and NAS, and had read a little about instability with RAID1 and this device with earlier firmware.

Had my DNS-323 for a year now.. RAID-1 on two 1TB Seagates... started @ firmware 1.05.  No issues on it ever.  RAID is a mature technology that seems to have been implemented well on the 323.

At this point, you won't be able to go to a RAID-1 without a reformat since you've already configured your drives to work independently.

Good to know - thanks for the info. You're correct in that I can't 'go back', but when I get to the point when I need to clean things up I'll set it up that way.
