Title: Device can only connect to guest network
Post by: LowTone on June 22, 2015, 04:51:50 AM
Hey all,

I'm having trouble connecting a particular Android device to my DIR-868L WLAN. I can connect it to the 2.4G guest network, but no to the regular network (5.0G is not supported by he device). The security settings on both the guest and regular network are identical (except te password, but I use the correct one for the correct network when connectiong obviously).

I have a bunch of ohter devices that connect with both the guest and the regular network and both the 2.4G and 5.0G ones.

I've tried different security settings, factory resetm disabling the 5.0G band and a bunch of other things, but I cannot get it to work. Since it's only that specific device (Galaxy Ace 2 smartphone), the problem is in the device. But for the life of me I can't think of a way to debug it furter. Especially since it connects to the guest network just fine. Any ideas?

Firmware is 1.09 and region is Europe.

Cheers for any help on the matter!

What happens if you temporarily disable security on the 2.4Ghz radio and try to connect the device? Re-enable after testing...

Heya,

Hardware version: 1A
Firmware version 1.09
Region: Europe

I've tried it without security as wel, but still the same problem. The log contains this message each time a connection is tried:
Got new client [04:1B:BA:71:57:35] associated from BAND24G-1.2 (2.4 Ghz)

When connected to the guest network it gets an IP (the 192.168.7.x is the guest network range):
DHCP: Server sending ACK to 192.168.7.101. (Lease time = 604800)

But when connecting to the regular network, no ACK message is given (and no connection is made)

And other devices connect to the main wifi network ok?
IF other devices connect accept this one particular device, I presume this device is the problem...Ensure the device has been updated.

Try this, Set WPA only(not WPA2), TPIK only, channel width 20Mhz only and try again.

If the device will not connect with these settings or with Security disabled, I think you may need to contact the Mfr of the Galaxy device and ask for help and information regarding it...

You can try upgrading FW and see:

Thanks for the tips, FurryNutz.

I'll have some time this weekend to try them out.

Cheers

Heya FurryNutz,

The update to the new firmware seems to have fixed it. Not sure if it was the firmware itself (I imported the settings from the previous firmware) or simply the factory reset that goes along with it (I did try that on the previous FW before however)

But the device is connecting so my GF (and by proxy myself) is happy :)

Cheers for your advice!

As dumb as i thought it was-but is that device the same as another device on the network already?
I have 2 samsung gs4's. I had to connect one to 2.4 ghz and the other to 5.8ghz on a different brand router.  (Haven't tried since i updated that f/w if it's still the case).

Nope, only one of that type. Good suggestion though.

You should be able to connect any same type or model device to the router regardless of which radio your using.
I have two NESTs and iPhones running well for me.
