I just got rid of my ftp site and tried to setup my camera to send email to my gmail account. All the documentation I could find on this was very, very old. I couldn't get it to authenticate properly. Finally, I realized, google changed their security a while back. That was the key- I had to go into my google gmail account and change it to "access for less secure apps has been enabled". It's still using the standard settings everybody has documented:
smtp server: smtp.gmail.com
smtp server port 587
sender email: <me>@gmail.com
recever email: <me>@gmail.com
username <me>
password <xxxx>
Use STARTTLS
I kept trying different variations on this - but it kept saying the username/password were bad. I finally changed my google account security to enable less secure apps - and WHAM, it works now. Just thought I'd post this in case it helps others. I bet there's a lot of people that don't even know their camera is now failing to send to gmail.
I really don't like making my account login less secure - even though it's still using SSL, there's a reason google enhanced this. I'm hoping d-link will provide new firmware to allow me to revert back to my more secure login.
