Post by: vtverdohleb on August 07, 2015, 07:50:39 AM
[Add-on] PlexMedia Server v0.9.12.8

[Description]
Plex bridges the gap between your D-Link NAS and your home theater, doing so with a visually appealing user interface that provides instant access to your media. Plex can play a wide range of video, audio and photo formats as well as online streaming audio and video.
Attention! If you have installed a previous version of Plex addon you want to manually save a directory mediabase “/mnt/HD/HD_a2/Nas_Prog/Plex/Library/Plex Media Server”.

Hi Josu

You don't need to uninstall the old BUT if you have a large collection of media you might best copy the database

Somewhere in this forum are instructions on how to copy the database before updating.

It took me more than 8 hrs to complete movie/music database because I forgot to copy it before updating.

To copy using the web file Manager elFinder or QuiXplorer.
Code: [Select]
/mnt/HD/HD_a2/Nas_Prog/Plex/Library/Plex Media Server -> /mnt/HD/HD_a2/Plex Media Server
/mnt/HD/HD_a2 = Volume_1

No, fun_plug not required.

Just log into ShareCenter and go to Management > Application Management > Ad Ons, and Choose File to install.

Kodi supports most, if not all, video codecs where Plex doesn't and that is your problem.

My DNS-320L is set to go to sleep after 30 minutes of inactivity.  I installed Plex on it, but it seems to take away the ability to go to sleep, so it ends up being on all the time. Is that suppose to happen or something wrong here?

I have not used Plex for a while so not sure about your issues but assume 340L is similar to 340L
Here's how to install
Download the file (try this link  http://dlink.vtverdohleb.org.ua/Add-On/ (http://dlink.vtverdohleb.org.ua/Add-On/)

Log in to DNS340L via webgui (type IP in web broswer)
Click "Applications"
Click "Add-On Management"
Click "Choose File" after finding the downloaded file click "Apply"
The webgui will ask you to confirm to install - click "Yes"
After a few minutes max it should display in list of installed applications.
You need to ensure "Start/Stop" is Red meaning it's running

Hi, my first time installing this add-on.

I tried installing this version and when enable the plex and click on the icon, I received the message: 404 - Not Found. First I tried restart the 327L, but the error continues. After I did the restore to factory, reinstalled again and the same error.

I tried install the version 1.07 and when I connect received the message: ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED

I don't know what can I do.

Sorry for the english, I'm brazillian. ;D ;D

With Plex you can not hurry! After installation you need to wait at least a few minutes. The NAS processor is rather weak for such a "heavy," as Plex.
After you start Plex and wait 5-10 minutes (first start). After this "pause" you can go in the web interface.
Those who hurry will get "404" and "ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED".
For those users who do not like to wait, I recommend Twonky.

Can you try a reboot of NAS after installation..then give it a few minutes before accessing Plex

Let us know if this fixes your issue.

OK one more suggestion from me - install QuiXplorer or use other if you can access the main folders on the NAS - unistall Plex - reboot NAS - open QuiXplorer and browse to Nas_Prog folder and delete Plex folder if it exists also delete plex_start.log from main folder.  Then fresh install Plex and reboot

After so many attempts, the plex worked. I changed the HD to another formated HD and worked.

It is working well, when a played in PC or TV, but when a try play a movie in android phone or iphone, I receive the message: the server is not powerful enough to convert video.

Is this message common?

When I see the status, the cpu is normal but the memory is almost full.

The Plex server is free, but client need money https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.plexapp.android
If you look at the DLNA, it is better to use free MiniDLNA

Yes it's common with Plex and why I switched to Kodi on another device to act as media browser/streamer.  In basic terms your device does not have the necessary computing power to "convert" the stream.

Basically Plex has issues with mkv but also your NAS has issues.

Some recommend Twonky b ut it's still not nice to look at

There is an addon for HTPC Manager that should somehow support XBMC (now Kodi) but nobody has explained how it should work and I've tried everything except using a silver bullet  ;)

Added You are either going to have to convert videos (or change containers) or rip/download new in different format/container or try Kodi on another device

HTPCmanager it's not meant to play/transcode or do anything with videos like plex does.
It's just an interface to manage other services like torrent downloaders (transmission, deluge. etc.), sickrage (tv shows downloads). couchpotato (movies) and so on.

I also use Kodi to play all my stuff, nice interface, runs great on a raspberry, play all my files directly from my nas via smb, no transcoding needed.

For people that want an alternative to Plex, you might want to check out Emby, it's basically the same as plex but free both server and clients.
Thereīs even a plugin for Kodi that lets you use the Emby server library but using Kodi player and interface, pretty neat stuff.

However, I don't think we will be able to run Emby on our DLink nases because it requires mono (which is not available as an addon yet), and it is a bit heavy, at least on the ram side. But running it from a windows/linux server works fine.
I think now itīs even available for the raspberry pi 2, however I don't have one yet so I can't tell for sure.

Agree with everything you say....but can't vote up your comment...how sad !

I'm wondering if you have time to create basic instructions for Emby, in a new thread maybe - and yes I'm well aware it's not directly D Link related but it does make "best practice (use) of the NAS as currently there is little in the way of functionality outside of LAN.

Added

I said I agree but then looked again at the HTPCManager addon  http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=61262.0 (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=61262.0)

It clearly states
Quote
A home theater PC (HTPC) or media center computer is a convergence device that combines some or all the capabilities of a personal computer with a software application that supports video, photo, audio playback, and sometimes video recording functionality.

Am I missing something or just plain stupid?   lol

Sure, Iīm actually testing emby right now (again, used it before for a little bit, but because Iīm using mysql I didn't need it at the moment, but now planning on moving to emby), trying to roll a small ubuntu server on an old netbook I had laying arround.
Just need to know what OS/device you plan on using it to help you.

About that, I donīt know how to say this without sounding arrogant plus english not my first language, but what you are seeing there it's just the definition for a HTPC, NOT HTPCmanager (the software and addon itself), that I belive is from wikipedia actually.

As I said, HTPCmanager it's just a nice interface to control/interact with other software, AFAIK there's no video transcoding functions, there's a fork however that adds funcions to it in the form of other software but nothing like vide/library managment or something like that AFAIK, will look into it again when I have free time.

To say English isn't your native language I'm impressed - respect sir ;)
I'm assuming Emby settings will not differ much between OS (I'm using Windows 7)
And the addon Emby for Kodi  settings should also not be that different

I'm also curious about you comment about mysql
I have Kodi on my PC and tablet and mobile phone and I'm also looking for simple instructions on how to get the database onto the 320L and allow Kodi to access this.

So my good friend - if you have time and even with a language difference - I am prepared to offer my time and help to translate or test or whatever is needed so that we can help each other and help others too.

If you need to create instructions in your language I will accept and try my best to translate/understand etc.  I'm no linguist but know a few words in other languages ;)

Thanks again masterxilef

Thanks, I try learning english as much as I can

You are correct, emby doesnīt differ much between every os but itīs a little easier to get it going on windows as far as I can tell (just a little).

Just one more question before I can help you, how many users use your Kodi media center?

Also, what Kodi version are you using?

None yet because I'm finding it difficult to share my media with family/friends (not LAN)

The only current way to access outside of LAN is by giving mydlink email/password or using QuiXplorer with server login

My current LAN setup is
media stored on NAS 320L
Kodi installed on tablet accessing the media folders to build database
And I use the tablet to stream to Sony BDE3100 Home Cinema (networked) as both the Sony and the 320L have issues with transcoding/media playback type restrictions

Emby uses Kodi but has it's own database but the benefit of Emby over just Kodi is that others not on LAN can play the media from Emby database.

The only concern I have is will the 320L cope with 2 or 3 users streaming at the same time?

Ok, so the thing is, for your case scenario, you definitely need to use (try) emby, because the official mysql support is just for local lan, more so, it enables you to use the same database across various devices, however, that works only for one user, if its more than one user (still local lan only), theres some workarrounds to using a modified mysql db to make it simple for multiple users, multiple devices, which is what I am/was using, however, it hasn't been updated to kodi 15.

The solution, emby, basically let's you do what mysql does with some advantages, similar to what plex offers, like internet streaming. The only caveat is that in my case, it means a computer running 24/7 besides my nas. In my case is going to be a small netbook which I had laying arround that appears to work fine for emby and a few other stuff. Do keep in mind that altough emby is able to run just fine on low powered computers, if you need transcoding capabilities (recommended when online streaming), you need a beefier pc.

So I think you should give emby a chance, is very easy to setup, even more on windows. If you decide to try it and need any help, send me a pm so not to go off topic anymore here.

A: Well, that depends on a couple of things, the most important are bitrate of your videos, speed of your local lan (gigabit or just 100mb), and your internet up speed.

For local lan, if you are running gigabit ethernet, I think 3 or even 4 users should be more than fine on compressed video (ie not ful bluray rip). The internet side of things I couldn't tell you because I don't do that, plus my internet up speed sucks.

Can anyone help? I have a DNS-320L but no matter what I try and play I get the error "this server is not powerful enough to convert video" - Yet the videos when I play them (same files) off my PC-based Plex server show that they are streamed direct - ie no video transcoding - with only audio transcoding?! Can anyone assist? I want to serve off plex without video transcoding (as obviously this NAS isn't powerful enough to do so) - but allow it to transcode audio...

Just confused why my PC plex server can serve the video direct yet the DNS-320L plex server seems to think it needs to transcode the video?!

For D-Link NAS developers do not create Plexmediaserver. I created Addons for D-Link NAS from the NAS builds for other vendors. Due to software limitations this was difficult to do. Today can make PMS v0.9.12.13 only for DNS-327L/340L.

P.S. By the way! Your questions and suggestions are interesting to me and I try to satisfy all. But I have less desire to spend their free time when "donate" (http://dlink.vtverdohleb.org.ua/Add-On/donate.php) the majority of users is ignored. I need it to work on new Addons, and not for personal enrichment.

Thanks so much! Would a donation help get it updated for the DNS-320L, or is there a technical limitation?  The latest version up fr the DNS-320L won't work on iOS (there is a bug), but the previous versions are all too old for the iOS app - so I am stuck until an updated version of the pelx media server for the DNS-320L is prepared! Happy to pay.
