Title: Wi-fi range
Post by: garael on August 14, 2015, 06:50:23 AM
I'm having very poor reception with hand-held devices at ~50 feet, through two residential walls (i.e., drywall, studs and insulation).  I have the router set up as dual band, but I don't really need both. I have it working with Chromecast on 2.4ghz.  Can you please provide some optimization tips for range and how to exclusively use 2.4ghz?  Thanks...

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations

50ft thru two walls maybe a bit much for some routers without some help or some range extenders.  Device reception capabilities when receiving can be a factor. Some devices may not work well at far distance ranges so signal boost from the main source maybe needed.
Router Placement
Forum User - "Well I feel really dumb. After moving the router away from other electronic devices my speeds are back to normal. Just a heads up for anyone experiencing slow speeds, you might want to move it away from other electronics and see if that helps."
3-6' feet minimum safe distance between devices.
Placement on main level floor and central in the building and WELL ventilated is preferred. Not in basements or closets as building materials, or near by electronics devices could interfere or hinder good signal propagation.

If you don't need or use 5Ghz, you can disable this radio. It can be re-enabled later on if needed.
