Title: College Campus, Gaming, and a VPN
Post by: Adams880 on August 25, 2015, 10:07:51 AM
Hello,

This is my first time posting here, so bear with me if I forget any steps or anything.

I am on KSU's campus in Marietta, GA. And I have been trying to get my PS4 to give me at least a Type 2 NAT so I can actually talk to people online. I cannot play teambased games because of it and I have been looking into ways to solve this problem.

A visit to the IT department told me they would not be able to open the ports I needed open, and port forwarding would not help me either. I was told a VPN would allow me to get past the ports being closed and be able to change my NAT to Type 2 or open.

Not being very experienced in this area I have come here for help.

I have a DLink DIR-655 router which is connected straight to the wall in my dorm. I have my PS4 LAN cabled to it as well. I set my PS4 with a Static IP already when I was attempting to port forward.

If I purchase access to nordVPN (https://nordvpn.com) will I be able to get around the NAT block with that? Would anybody be able to tell me how to get my PS4 on this VPN  once I do have access to it?

MORE INFO:
ISP: Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia
Router: D-Link DIR-655
Console: PlayStation 4
Firmware Version on Router: 1.37NA,  2013/06/06

Let me know if there is any more information that you need, and thank you for your help!

You'll need to ask the Mfr of the NordVPN if it will help with NAT. Biggest issue is the main ISP allowing a public IP address thru the ISP modem and to the DIR-655.
