Title: rsync as an application? OR a "how to" for apps creation?
Post by: zehninguem on July 06, 2009, 02:38:54 PM
Hi

I'm very happy with 1.08 even in beta mode and taking in consideration all bugs already reported (including with the Backup).
However Backup is very limited as a synchronization tool to sync folders from the two disks  (not running RAID of course).
Usually I do a rsync between my machines and the disks of my dns-323 due to the limitations of Backup (ex can not sync deletions), but would be a lot better to sync my machines with one of the disks and then, when all the machines are already turned of, synchronize the two dns 323 disks using rsync.
Also another important point would be to be able to identify if Backup (or better rsync) finished to run and be able to turn off the dns 323.

The introduction os Apps is a must but some applications (or a how to create apps) would be important to eliminate the need of not supported alternative as funplug. The availability of ssh, rsync, and top just to mention some would be appreciated. Better, the instructions on how to create new applications will turn the box on a very powerful little machine.

Thanks in advance

I fully support the request to have rsync implemented!

I'll add an enthusiastic vote for this as well.

+1 or perhaps an easier route is to work with the funplug folks to make it work
