Title: USB Harddrive not detectet
Post by: Talryn on August 26, 2015, 02:08:02 AM
When connecting my RUF 500gb USB 3 Harddrive to the USB 3 port on the D-Link Dir-890l nothing happen, it just states no USB device detected, the Harddrive is formatted using ExFat and is spinning when connectet.

Any idea what to do to get the Router to accept the Harddrive ?

Format the drive for NTFS...

NTFS is a very poor solution for cross-platform compatibility.

I'm sorely disappointed to see that the D-Link 890-L doesn't have exFAT support.

NTFS doesn't work with OS X (don't even mention the 3rd party workarounds) and the other file formats aren't particularly good either.

D-Link should prioritize exFAT support

NTFS works for me on my OSX devices. Has for years.

D-Link reserved exFat for there NAS storage systems. Not much call for that level of feature for home class routers where NTFS works for general use. Even though routers can handle some storage solutions, it's not meant to compete with NAS solutions so you wont get same performances as NAS. Especially with USB being a bottle neck and the many kinds of USB drives and drives that are inside them.

I recommend if you wanting exFat solutions and good storage performances, NAS should be on your list of items to review and consider.

I'm facing the same issue. It's there any announced firmware upgrade that will support ext3 or ext4?
I want to keep some files that should be available to the whole ShipW.com team (https://www.shipw.com/) under local network and NTFS format is not a pretty way to share it to the local clients.

I believe ext format is reserved for D-Links DNS NAS products.
NTFS works.
