Title: 2332L email problem
Post by: msailg on August 31, 2015, 09:07:34 AM
I have a 2332L which I have struggled to get the email working. I have now got it working to my gmail account using the restricted service where the email server address is aspmx.l.google.com
on port 25
no username or password or TLS required.

My 942L camera works fine, the 2332L was a pain to  get to email

What FW is loaded on the camera?
Is "uPnP Port Fowarding" enabled on both cameras?

I presume if one camera is working the other different model isn't, possible configuration issue or something in FW.
What region are you located?

You have NOT got it working or have NOW got it working?

My 2332's work fine with Gmail using the smtp.gmail.com server address on port 587, with TLS.

My mistake. I have got it working but only using the limited email set up as described in my original post. I can not get it to work using smtp.gmail.com, the test always comes back 'fail'.

In all my tests the set up on the 2332L for smtp.gmail.com is exactly the same as that on the 942L which works perfectly. I checked the 2332L installed software, I think it is 1.05 ish from memory.

One area of my confusion is the user name, are you using name@gmail.com or name?

User name is name@gmail.com

Server is smtp.gmail.com

Port is 587

"Secure connection" checkbox is checked.

I have the latest FW.

uPnP port forwarding is not ticked on either camera, only uPnP is ticked. I am not sure what this does anyway?

Might help since you have more than one DCS camera online at the same time:
DCS Cloud (L) Series Camera Configuration and Mydlink.com (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=62395.0)

Have you copied the settings I posted above and found that it still doesn't work?

Yes I used those settings you suggested and it still did not work :-(

I wonder now if the settings do not like my password so I am going to try with a new email account and a simple alpha only password.
I will report back later.

Good call.  I predict that just may do the trick!

Hello,

I have a similar problem. I am not receiving emails from it anymore. I configured it about a year ago and things were successful then with both the testing of the email configuration and receiving actual notification emails. It started about couple weeks ago and I didn't change any setting on the camera or my gmail account. I have confirmed "Access to Less Secure Apps" is On. I have tried setting up a fresh gmail account. I have also tried an existing yahoo account.

All the results so far have been fails.

For my existing gmail account, the testing failed but for some reason I did receive actual notification emails when I insisted on enabling it anyway. I only received the first 2 to 4 of them. After that the emails didn't appear again despite confirming the camera logs have motion entries. I think what might have happened here is I temporarily disabled notifications for about a day or so and then re-enabled it.

For the fresh gmail account, the testing failed and the motions detected by the camera did not trigger an email notification.

For the existing yahoo account, I had the same failure as the fresh gmail account.

Another confusion I have is why the testing fails. I'm quite certain I have the correct email configurations from both companies.

Anyway, for now I have configured the camera to also create motion notifications in the SD card.

Thanks and I would love to hear from anyone who have the same issues or don't have the issues! :)

I am all of a sudden running into this issue. I have two separate (physical) locations with identical setups. Last week both locations stopped sending emails. One location sends pics to my email the other sends video to Flickr.
At location 1 (my house) I tried a factory reset which didn't help. I then reloaded the old config save. Still not working. Tried rebooting and unplugging also. I then was thinking of rolling back from 1.05FW to 1.01 when I noticed 1.07 was available. I tried that and it started working.
Now loaction 2. No matter what I try I can't get it to send an email. I even copied the exact email settings from location 1's to do test emails and it always fails. Therefore I know for sure it's not the email account config.
Never had this problem since I got the cam years ago.

I know the config is correct because I have the identical settings in location 1 which is working.

Any chance to swap cameras at each location?  ???

Very good idea. I will save that as a last resort as they are a pain to get to.
I'm wondering if it could be something to do with the way TIme Warner Cable has each account configured? Each location is a different account.

Possible. If you have the same cameras and email accounts are set up correctly, both should work. Only differences maybe ISP servcies or  main host router i would guess.

Thanks for that link. I don't think the router is an issue as I can remotely (from outside the LAN) view and configure the camera.

Im thinking maybe a configuration issue or a ISP email service issue.

An ISP email config issue could be it. One account is ca.rr.com and the other is twc.com. If they all of a sudden started blocking port 587 on one account that would explain it. Doubt it but certainly possible.

Also. It's not a corrupt config on the camera because at the location that isn't working I actually have two 2332L cameras and they are both behaving the same.

If you can swap cameras, this should be telling.  ::)

Okay. Today I will take one of the cams that isn't working home to where my cam is working. Stay tuned.

This was going to be my suggestion to check.  It's unfortunately easy to corrupt the config file and hard to tell without inspecting it.  Glad you have thought of this and ruled it out.

I brought one of the cams home to test. It works. Therefore it is something to do with the router or the ISP account setup. OR.... A recent change is the addition of a two plug powerline network. I can't imagine it being this as one camera doesn't use the powerline. Any other ideas?

is the camera connected to this power line product?

No

Well I beleive the camera is working. I presume the problem lies in the networking configuration at this one location.  ???  Try both cameras at the same time at the working location.

I'm thinking this has something to do with Time Warner Cable. It seems to be something to do with their SMTP server mail.twc.com. This is ALSO their webmail address. I can't access the webmail page from this location either. It is the only website that I can't access. This seems to be a related issue. It's being escalated to higher level support.

After dealing with my ISP (Time Warner) forever with this issue I had no other choice but to create a new gmail account specifically for this camera location.
