Title: DCS-935L white and black screen
Post by: jhzero on September 25, 2015, 10:39:01 AM
I bought a DCS-935L about two weeks ago.  I installed it and updated the firmware to 1.06, which is the latest.  However, during the day the screen will go all white.  This happens at least once a day.  It seems to happen when its adusting the brightness and/or night vision settings.  I have noticed at night it will go all black some times.  To fix it, I have to reboot or unplug it.  After that its fine for a while.

I thought I had a defective unit, so I had it exchanged.  The new device, with firmware 1.06 is doing the same thing.

Any ideas what I can do to fix this from happening?  I am recording the camera on a NVR device, and if it goes all white or black its useless.

Thank you.

Can you try a factory reset and set up from scratch and see if this helps?

What Model and MFr is the main host router?
What region are you located?

I stated this in a reply to a previous thread on this issue.  But I am having the exact same problem.  Again, I have my camera at the top of an inside window that points outside to my driveway.  I'm in the United States.

I bought this just this past week.  I am running firmware 1.06.02 hardware A.

It goes all white at some point in the morning.. even though I have it pointed down towards my driveway.. the sun still overpowers with light and for some reason, causes the camera to go FULL WHITE.. and stays that way all day long until about dusk time when the sun starts to go back down.. then it goes back to normal.

However, one way to reset this issue (until it happens again which is pretty much right away since the picture is super bright with the sun out), is to go to the webUI->Setup->Audio and Video... here, if I change the resolution, it corrects the camera...  next time, I'll try changing the bit rate and/or frame rate to see if that temporarily fixes the issue as well.

This is my 1st cam.. so far, it's "ok".  But this all white issue is enough to get me to return this product and try another brand.

Yes, I have reset the camera to factory.... both the original and the replacement.  The camera is still doing it, sometimes twice a day and its getting really annoying.  I am about to return it unless someone can post a solution or Dlink and provide a firmware update.

Do you have access to the cameras UI? If so, you might try using the FW update feature there and downgrade to v1.04:

I tried your advice.  I downgraded to 1.04.06 which set the agent version to 2.0.19-b20.

I factory reset the device via the webUI.. and re-connected to my network.  No change.

It's very odd.  It seems like the light sensor is fluctuating between different brightnesses and trying to stabilize, but can't.  After just a minute or so, it just goes full white (like a desktop full white type of background).  Again, one way to get it to show the normal video again is to go under Setup->Audio and Video and change the Resolutions of both H.264 and MJPEG at the same time to something else, and the video starts going again.. but then, after a few minutes, goes full white again.  Could it be because I have the camera inside a window.. maybe the light sensor is confused a little bit with a possible small reflection in the window?  But the camera is pointed sideways through the window.. I just dont get it.

It's ok.  I'm returning this camera and trying another brand.  It's a shame, because I do like the compactness of this device.

I would try another unit. Your unit maybe faulty is all.

Good Luck.

That's interesting... I do recall that my setting was set to 60Hz.. But I've long since returned my device.   But knowing this now, I may purchase a D-Link the next time I'm looking to purchase another camera.... since I liked mostly everything else about the camera.. esp the software.

I have same issue with my 935L- pointed outside but screen all white.  I found the fix on the website but how can I apply the fix?  The downloads page for the 935L does not list any configuration software and  the phone app doesn't seem to have any of the mentioned configuration settings.  Paperwork that came with it has no mention of configuration software.  I have FW 1.07.
The link you provided for the fix is the same thing I already found but  how do I get to Step 1:
"STEP 1.  Log in to the camera configuraiton pages"

Need to log into the cameras web page using the IP address it's assigned from the main host router.

Look at the main host routers DHCP Client table to find the IP address for the camera.

I applied this fix (setting the frequency to OFF).  I thought it fixed it but it is still doing it at certain times of the day.  The only way to stop it from flickering is to switch it from day mode to night mode and back again.   :'(

Frequency? What do you mean by this?
