Title: file sharing on internet
Post by: fallout2 on November 02, 2015, 12:47:57 AM
Hello

What is the easiest way to share a file (download link) with people on internet? They need to see it and download it. No need for modification and upload.
NAS  is 320L conected on LAN behind router.

I use the ftp function of the nas. as long as the ports are forwarded on your router either use your ddns address or your external i.p with an ftp program such as filezilla and select the files you want to transfer.

Hi,
I installed Wordpress (blog addon).
Using elFinder to explore files and i dropped my medias to share on internet into a Wordpress repertory i created for.
The result is ;
My website is hosted on free hoster and my medias are streamed from my DSN-320l, at home using dynamic dns service (dlinkddns.com)
Go there and see (http://gule.co.nf/download/)

EDIT: changed CMSMadeSimple for Wordpress, webhoster and ddns

Like raw5y said, FTP is the quickest and easiest to do.

Enter your NAS thru the web browser
192.168.1.1 => EXAMPLE
Log in
Go to Management
Network Management
Dynamic DNS
Now STOP and go to Google and create an account with a DDNS provider, there are several options for free and one offered by D-Link themselves (paid I think) but remember to go for a free one. Once you have an account go back to the NAS

Should look something like this. Once its in success, updated then go to
Account Management
Create
Create one account with the permissions you want, you want READ-ONLY right? then select, select FTP and READ-ONLY, and done.

Now the hard part, go to Network Management
Port Forwarding and expand
Click TEST and hope for the best, if all ok then you're good to go, if not then read your particular router manual and find how to forward the ports (80 is always open but you don't want that one, 8080 or the one the NAS uses, I don't know which one is, read the manual).
If you still have problems call your ISP and tell them you need help to open the ports of your router.

Finally you should have something like this:

ftp://ftp.ebi.ac.uk/pub/databases/blueprint/

One small point Raik, port 80 is for HTTP traffic - standard FTP ports are 20 for data and 21 for control.  You can change those ports, it is better to change the data port to one of the high numbers and still use 21 for the handshake.
