I set up my DNS-323 a LONG time ago and changed from the default "blank" password to something else. Unfortunately, I cannot for the life of me remember what it was. I have tried everything I can think of - but still no success. :-[
So,
A) How do I recover from this?
B) What impact will this solution have on the 160GB of data I have stored on the unit now? (Will I need to back up to another device first? Or will the data remain unchanged?)
I looked through the manual, the FAQs, the knowledge base. I even searched within the forum, but I did not already see the solution, so I'm posting it for someone merciful to bail me out.
Thank you in advance!

You can reset the unit to factory defaults by pressing the reset button located on the back of the unit. You will need a paper clip and just press it in a hold for about 5 seconds or until you notice a reboot. This does not affect the data on your hard drives in any way.

you might also want to write down your passwords and put them in the family safe or safety deposit box. linux root and encrypted containers can be pretty unforgiving when you forget the password.
