Well.... before I upgraded the firmware to 1.3, I couldn't use the Dlink WM because it always loses the connection. It reconnects after about 30 seconds, and then drops it again after 5 minutes. This continues for about 20 minutes, and then it won't even pick up my network. Sounds like the XTREMEness of the adapter is crashing the router :-\
After I upgraded the firmware, I can't even use the Dlink WM because it's GONE. Not in my programs folder, not on my desktop, GONE. Poof. gone. I don't have any wireless adapters, so it's working, (drivers are installed according to device manager, and working properly) and I can't get 300mbps :'(
Basically my questions are
1) Do I need the Dlink WM software to connect at 300mbps?
2) Why was it so finicky? IS there a firmware upgrade in the works?
3) What is the correct way to install this adapter?
Please help! This is frustrating!

I have 2 of these cards, I do not use the D-Link Wireless manager. When Windows found the cards I pointed to the folder that had the drivers in it, I did not run the setup routine. I handle the network through the Windows Zero Configuration thing. The connections are very good through WZC, around 240 - 270 for my cards.

What are your security settings on the router / card? I have mine set to "Auto (WPA or WPA2)"
-
I am using WPA2 Only. Cipher is AES.

You are talking about setting the router security mode to WPA2 only mode right? I heard that doing this will make it impossible for people without N adapters to logon to the router. is this true?

I have only N adapters so it is not an issue for me. I do have it set for N broadcast only. I think G adapters should be able to negotiate the WPA2 setting, not sure about the B's.
Check out the post at the top by Lycan to see if you are setup the way he suggests.

I tired this, didn't work. I can't even log onto my network after I switch the security to WPA2 only. Windows gives me an error saying it can't log on to that type of network. any suggestions?

What OS are you running?
If XP be sure you have this installed (KB893357):
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=662bb74d-e7c1-48d6-95ee-1459234f4483&displaylang=en
I had a system that would only connect WPA, after installing this I got WPA2 working on that system.

Thanks! I installed that update and I'm getting 300 mbps now!

Good deal, glad I could help.

Great Post!
I'm glad the patch was all you needed.

Hi,
In what way did you upgrade a firmware for this adapter ? Or did you mean to say you updated the driver for this adapter ?
Personally, I ended up using the Atheros generic drivers as I could not get the DLink to install properly....and I also ended up using the Windows WZC utility....

He meant updated driver in the subject.

I had the same problem. I updated to the latest driver, 1.3 and could not connect to the 655. I was just about to post this as a problem.
I just reinstalled the driver that came with the card and I can now attach.
I will try the XP patch because I cannot use windows with wpa2 so maybe that is a problem with the 1.3 driver. Not sure.
