I currently am using a D'link DIR-655 router which I have had for about 2 years. For the past 2 months it has been losing all connection to all devices attached to it until it is rebooted. After the reboot it works fine. It loses connection about 4 or 5 times a week. I figured the router was just wearing out so I bought a new D'link router. I copied all the settings from the old one and it worked however web pages loaded very slowly if at all. I made sure the settings were correct and the firmware updated but it did not fix the issue. I tried working with D'link support but they were no help. So I bought another D'link router and had the same issue. Web pages load very slowly and usually had to be refreshed before they would open. I was getting desperate because the router is for a small office of 8 users and the network issues were becoming a big problem. I then bought the same model of router DIR-655 that was working but dropping connection. I again have the same issue of slow web pages. I have checked all the settings numerous times and they are identical to my current router which opens pages quickly but loses connection 4 or 5 times a week. So my options are to use my current router which works great but loses connection 4 or 5 times a week and has to be rebooted or use a new router which opens web pages painfully slow if at all. Please help me figure out why the new routers are opening up pages so slow. Thanks

Router Placement

3-6' feet minimum safe distance between devices.
Placement on main level floor and central in the building and WELL ventilated is preferred. Not in basements or closets as building materials, or near by electronics devices could interfere or hinder good signal propagation.

On the original DIR-655 which works great but loses connection
Hardware version B-1
Firmware version 2.11NA
Wired connection and all devices are wired
Was losing connection before firmware update and after
I have not done a factory reset because I am worried if I do it will have the same web page issues as all the new ones I’ve tried.
On the new DIR-655
Hardware version C-1
Firmware version 3.02
ISP is cox cable 20MB
Modem is Cisco DPC3010
I have the new router placed in the same location as the old one which is away from other electronics.
Speed test Ping 22ms Down is 17.69 and Up is 3.29

I recommend trying a factory reset and set up from scratch. Save a router config to file before doing the reset. Just in case.
Disable WPS and set IPv6 to Local Connection Only.


What web page issues are you referring too?

If you seeing this on both routers, possible problem with ISP service/modem. I recommend that you have your ISP check the cabling going to the ISP modem, check signal levels going to the ISP modem. For DSL or Fiber service lines, ensure that the ISP is using good working phone or cable lines to the DSL modem and that the phone lines are filtered correctly. For cable Internet, RG-6 coaxial cable is needed, not RG-59. Check for t.v. line splitters and remove them as they can introduce noise on the line and lower the signal going to the ISP modem. I recommend having the ISP service physically check the lines going from the out side to the ISP modem. Connecting to the ISP modem could result in a false positive as the signal to the modem could be just enough to that point then adding on a router, could see problems. The router operation is dependent upon getting good data flow from the ISP modem and the modem is dependent upon getting good signal from the ISP Service.

I will try the reset on the old router thanks. On the new router it is all webpages. They open very slowly and sometimes have to be refreshed before they will open. Once the web pages are open then you can navigate quickly and the internet speed test shows all good speeds. It is just opening the page that is brutally slow. The old router opens pages quickly with no issues; it just has the losing connection problem.

PC Web Browser Configurations
What browser are you using?
Try Opera or FF? If IE 8, 9, 10 or 11, set compatibility mode and test again. (For older generation routers.)
Disable any security browser Add-ons like No Script and Ad-Block or configure them to allow All Pages when connected to the router.
Clear all browser caches.
Be sure to log into the Admin account on the router.
Try turning off these features in Chrome:
Top right corner, little bars for options > Settings > Settings (on left) > Show advanced settings.
Uncheck these:
Use a web service to help resolve navigation errors
Use a prediction service to help complete searches and URLs typed in the address bar
Predict network actions to improve page load performance
Enable phishing and malware protection
