I added a second 2TB disk to my DNS-321. Then I went to the web-based configuration tools to format it. It asked if I wanted to add it to RAID 0. It warned that it would reformat the existing disk. That was all as expected.
Then it just sat there for two days and counting. I can ping it and it replies promptly, but that's all. The admin screen doesn't respond. How long should I wait?

3 days and counting.

Try formatting as Standard formatting and not RAID?

After 5 days I turned it off. It says the RAID is degraded, which isn't surprising. I went to Disk Diagnostics and it said the new disk failed--a year ago. Apparently the DNS-321 remembered an old drive that has long since been recycled. I am running tests on the new volume now, and if they pass I bet it will format. Stand by.

So, back to the original question:
How many days should it take to format 4 TB as RAID 0?
- Less than one
- One
- Two
- Three or more

Well, that was odd, but things seem to be working. Issuing the Format command causes the admin UI to halt. I gave it 24 hours, rebooted the DNS-231, and the format seems to have completed normally. I can read and write. No telling how long it really took, once the drive status was good.

Just curious, what browser are you using? ???
