Title: Only one icon active in RAID 1?
Post by: sornord on July 12, 2009, 12:57:01 PM
Just purchased a DNS-321 and am using two Seagate 1.5tb drives in it.  Had to format them one at a time, separately, then RAID them to get them to set up.  Observe, however when I'm transferring files to it that only the right-side HDD icon indicates activity, i.e. flashing rapidly.  The left-side HDD icon only flashes once every several seconds, if at all.

The web based utility indicates RAID1 is there but shouldn't both icons be flashing equally if this was the case?

Yeah you will see both LEDs flashing when writing to the RAID1 volume. What is the status of the RAID on the status page?

RAID1 shown in the set up.  Both icons flash but only one seems to be active when I'm writing a file to the box.  It blinks rapidly.  The other only blinks occasionally, and then just once or twice.  It stays on solid most of the time.

You can try powering the unit down and removing the drive that has the LED that is always flashing when writing then power it back up and see if the data is present on the remaining drive.
