Title: Viewing Files Remotely via ftp
Post by: ezgoldin on July 12, 2009, 06:04:25 PM
Hello All,

I'm a newbie with my DNS-323, but I have succeeded in loading it with 2 1.5TB Seagate drives in RAID 1, connecting via eternet to my Linksys WRT54g router, and backing up my 11,500 file mp3 collection.  My desktop PC is running Vista 32 bit, and the DNS-323 has firmware v. 1.07.

I can connect remotely via ftp, but see only the truncated file list of 2000 songs.  I've learned of the  "226 Output truncated to 2000 matches" issue with ftp from a quick online search.  I have always kept my music in one directory, and was hoping to be able to both back up that folder and access it when away fom home.  Is this possible with the DNS-323?  Must I subdivide my music amongst different folders?  Thanks.

The short answer:  Yes.  Divide up your collection to have fewer songs per folder.

Better answer:  wait until 1.08 comes out and see if it does a better job.  They're saying it should be out sometime in July.  Just over half a month remaining so it shouldn't be long now..

If I might expand on ttmcmurry's answer ...

Yes.  Divide up your collection to have fewer songs per folder.

Don't wait for 1.08, it's unlikely to change anything in this regard - many ftp servers do exactly what you describe by design - that's right - it is not a bug - it is designed to do this.

But I love the whole "hurry up and wait" attitude!  :-)
