Title: DNS 320 - through powerline broadband extender
Post by: Ben Fu Holo on May 22, 2016, 06:56:22 AM
Hi,

I have a DNS-320 Sharecentre and bought a pair of TRENDnet TPL-406E2K Powerline 500 to keep the NAS in another room.  The powerline adapters work fine, as tested by laptop, but when the NAS is pluged in, the ethernet lights go dead and I can not connect to the NAS.  I can connect to the NAS if it is wired directly to the router.  I have also tried setting the IP to both DHCP and fixed, with no joy.

Is there anything I am not doing?  Any help please?

Thanks
Ben

Try setting link speeds of available on the PLs and see if this may help.
Try swapping LAN cables to be sure.
You should contact the support of the Mfr of the PLs to see if there is any help and information regarding that.

Why not leave the DNS directly connected to the router or Gb swtich?

A quick question.  When you tested the power line units were they in their proposed positions?  If not do the test again using your laptop in place of the NAS, this will see if there is a problem with the power points being on different circuits which is the usual cause of the problem you are seeing.
