Title: DNS-320L having a problem connecting to my home network
Post by: fosgass on June 20, 2016, 09:57:18 AM
Hi everyone,

1. I have recently upgraded my Sitecom router X8 AC1750 to the latest firmware (from January 2016, WLR-8100v1001-firmware-v26);
2. Everything works perfectly, except when I turn on my D-Link Sharecenter;
3. If I have the DNS-320L connected to the router (via ethernet cable), I get no internet at all (anywere from Wifi to the other stuff connected by cable);
4. I even created a Static IP for the Sharecenter to see if I could tackle the problem, with no success...
5. I've made a reset to DNS-320L, no success.

Any thoughts? Any help would be appreciated...

thanks!

Is the DNS getting a Dynamic IP address from the main host router when DNS is set up for Auto DHCP?
Swap out LAN cables. Link> Cat6 is recommended. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CAT6)
Try a different router to see if problem persists.
Check for any LAN port speeds settings on the DNS. Should be set to Auto or if your router supports 1000Mb, set for 1000Mb speed.

Hi, thanks for your help:

Hardware version is A3
Firmware is 1.07 (10/19/2015)
I am located in the Netherlands

DNS is getting a static IP from Router (configuration in the DNS is set to auto DHCP)
I'm using Cat6 cable
Checked the LAN port speeds and set it to 1000Mb

I still didn't try a different router...

Basically what happens is when I turn the DNS on, everything keeps connected to the router (wireless or cable) but internet becomes unavailable. In my PC I open the browser and it stays searching for the page to open. On other devices (mobile phones, ipad) it just doesn't connect to anything...
An then, when I disconnect the DNS, I have to restart the router in order to get internet again.
Is as if the signal from DNS blocks all internet connection.

As this happened with a firmware upgrade I did on the Router, I'm going to try to downgrade the firmware and see if the problem persists. Any other ideas are welcome!

Try setting a IP reservation for the PC and for the DNS on the router. Kind of seems like there is a conflict happening on the router possibly.

Thanks FurryNutz,

Dowgraded the router's firmware to the previous version and it works. So apparently it has to do with the latest firmware, will have to check with the router provider in order to see what changed with the latest firmware.

Meanwhile, and afterwards, I've assigned a static IP for my computer, just in case.

So for now the issue is solved.

Many thanks!

Ok, thanks for letting us know. I guess something on the new FW you have doesn't like the DNS or something.
Glad regressing to prior version worked.

Enjoy.  ;)
