Title: Set up Camera without use of CD/Software?

I will use this camera with a Synology NAS, and I don't need the software that comes with it.
In any case I don't want to bloat my computer with even more software.

So, the question is:
How can I set up this camera directly, to talk with my (Synology) NAS?

I even need it to talk to my NAS over the internet. My scheme is like this:
CAMERA <- ROUTER <------internet-------> ROUTER -> NAS

I will probably start locally, and deal with router problems later.
First, I need to set up the camera.
How can I do this without the accompanying software?

Might try connecting the camera to the router and see if you can access the cameras IP address in a web page. If it directs you to installation via SW, then install the camera with the SW package and get it set up there. Once you get it set up and running. Then you can remove the SW. From there you should be able to access the cameras web page via it's IP address and configure the camera for network sources. Review the user manual as well for additional information on this.

Installing the SW and then removing it is a good suggestion. Thanks. (The only thing is that is surely leaves traces in my system, but I guess I can live with that..).

I will try first without the software, and just connect it to the router and then trying web access.
The only thing I am worried about, though, is a big, fat sticker covering the RJ-45 plug, saying "STOP! Insert CD first".

Need I be worried?

Get the latest FW installer from mydlink.com (http://mydlink.com) support site.

You should be able to.the software only helps find the camera on the network for people who don't know about routers/net working and allows mydlink.com access
