Title: Revision A4
Post by: bpapp on July 21, 2016, 04:52:28 AM
Hi,

I'm new here, so hello everyone :)
I just bought a DNS320L and it says that it has Revision A4. I can't find it anywhere in the whole internet. I can find firmwares for Rev A1/A2/A3, but nothing for A4. Do you have any hints that could help me to solve this puzzle?

Thanks,
Bela

Usually any v1.xx FW is supported by all Rev A models.

You can get FW updates here:
http://www.dlink.com/hu/hu/support/product/dns-320l-sharecenter-2-bay-cloud-storage-enclosure (http://www.dlink.com/hu/hu/support/product/dns-320l-sharecenter-2-bay-cloud-storage-enclosure)

You might phone contact our regional D-Link support office to inquire about Rev A4 FW to be sure.

I would like to add that unless any update firmware adds something you need or fixes a problem there is not much need to update what you already have.

Yes, we like to follow, "if it works, don't fix it!" kind of thinking with it comes to DNS and FW updates.  ;)

Thanks for the answers. I didn't want to fix non-existing problems, it was only a bit weird that there's no trace of this revision anywhere, not even in the official D-LINK pages.

Ya seems kind of odd that they wouldn't post something about it. Might ask them though at some point.

Good Luck.

Bought 3 months ago 2 units in A3 version. Yesterday I received one unit in the A4 version.

The 2 previous units went into 1.07 firmware and it was better.

The new unit, despite the A4 version is not indicated for the 1.07 firmware, it ok to do the jump (1.07 is really better than 1.06).

Make sure you have a copy of the installed firmware for the A4 unit before you try changing to 1.07.  That way you will have a way back should anything go wrong.

Be aware that there may be things that don't work when using the 1.07 firmware on the A4 version of the NAS.  It depends on exactly what hardware changes were made between versions (maybe a different integrated circuit used for some reason and the firmware for the A3 does not support it fully).

Thank you Ivan, of course you're right.
I am in holidays right now and plenty of time to test, with nothing important on the HDD. I am going to test with the 1.08.

I've tried the Logitech Media Server on it... But I've also a version installed on a Raspberry Pi 3, and I am understanding how faster is the little card in comparaison with the NAS.

If anything, phone contact your regional D-Link support office and find out exactly what is and is not supported on the A4.

Let us know how it goes.

Well, I spend few time to understand the first step is to set a password, otherwise I am unable to install or use apps...

So now:
o Logitech Media Sever is running correctly,
o SSHD is working with the user "admin" and the password defined for the admin user,
o Midnight Commander is Ok
o Transmission is Ok, very impressive.

I have a SSD connected to the USB port and managing copy from it to the drive in the unit.
edit 07/29 = transmission status
