Title: How many USB devices can you connect to the Shareport?
Post by: usmgp on July 16, 2009, 08:34:17 PM
I have a DIR 655 router and have used the Shareport utility with no problems so far.   Can you connect more than one USB device to the router through a powered USB hub?

Must it be a powered USB hub?  I tried this with an unpowered USB hub and although both printers were detected, one of them printed garbage while connected thru the hub.  The other printed fine however.  The one that printed garbage prints fine when connected directly thru Shareport.

Yes, powered is required since the USB port itself does not provide a lot of power.

When everything is working right I have been surprised how many devices I can connect.  I've tried thumb drives, external hard drives, DVD/CD drives and have had success writing to DVD-RW, printers, scanners, pc-faxes.  A 4G Mobile Wi-Max USB didn't seem to work, but I'm using all of this on Clear Wi-Max modem to my DIR-625 rev C with no problems.  I think the powered hub is the secret.  I've had all of these connected pretty much all of the time to my home network.

Interesting, can you list the OS version, 655 firmware version, Shareport version, and USB device(s) that are working well? I would like to try those versions.
