Title: DNS 320L - Unable to find volume encryption option
Post by: edilima on October 03, 2016, 04:56:05 PM
Hi, as the title says I am unable to find the volume encryption option in the NAS 320L A3 model.
Taking a look at the user manual, on page 85 there is a clear information about this option located inside Disk Management screen.

I am currently using the latest firmware 1.08 (2016-04-20) and whenever I try to reformat the two HDs inside, no matter what option I choose (Standard, JBOB, Raid 0 or Raid 1), there is no volume encryption option.

So, I hope to be extremelly wrong about this missing feature. I really expect this feature to be there (hiden maybe ) as THIS volume encryption feature was a key factor that I took into consideration in order to buy this product.

Any ideas ?

Best Regards,
Edilima

Did you follow the steps in the manual as shown on pages 73 to 78 to make an encrypted volume including ticking the encryption boxes and setting the password?

I reproduced the steps you mentioned above but the volume encryption step is not there. After I choose RAID Type as Standard, the wizard jumps to volume configuration summary and no encryption step is required.

It seems that volume encryption option was available in very old firmware versions, but now in this firmware 1.08 and in the previous 1.07 this option is not available.

I think you need to use the webUI to get this and not the disk wizard (for some reason the disk wizard assumes a simple setup and bypasses the advanced features).

I really appreciate your efforts for helping me.

I am currently using the WebUI. As soon as I log in, I go to disk management option (this is the only place where I am allowed to reformat the hard disks).
However, it looks like no volume encryption option is there.

Sorry you are being unsuccessful.

My service manager says that it not easy to find because it is only a tick box at the end of a volume description line. He thinks it is somewhere about the third step when you step through the reformatting procedure.  If that box is ticked it brings up a secondary screen that asks for the password.

You would thing that such an important item would have a menu item but this is not the case.

VERY VERY VERY disappointed with DLINK as advertise material says this product offers drive encryption but I'm not able to find anywhere even after reading the userīs manual a ton of times.

I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and ask for help and information regarding this. We find that phone contact has better immediate results over using email.
Let us know how it goes please.
